Sandwich..... what people will name their children

I can just imagine the back story.

At least it wasn't hoagie, or grinder or panini.

We always pick up hitchhikers on island! Most are are their way to or from work! We've met some interesting folks, but never had an offer for "magic mushrooms!!!!

He invited us to a party at Catherineburg to see him perform. They were going to have "Magical Mushroom Tea"... eat mushrooms and run through the forest with some guys.

...while listening to Pink Floyd's Ummagumma on the ipod.

An overload of sensory experience resulting in a neuroplastic shift of perception, and the re-wired brain would never be the same again. Good call Bevm.

There was a minute when I thought, "Wow that sounds like fun.." Then I looked over at my cop husband and changed my mind. I had to give up all of my bad habits when I married him, and replace them with liquor. Hey, it's legal...

That's funny! I believe they have Magic Mushroom Tea on the menu at Bomba's on Tortola (I think they are legal there?) When Honey found out, he requested a stop-over . I didn't think that was too keen of a scene for my 10 yr old, although the 20 yr old wouldn't have objected. You make me laugh Bev!

LOL.....traded Shrooms for fur lined hand cuffs.....to quote Hedley Lamar in Blazing Saddles..."Hmmm, Kinky, I like it!".......LOL!

Shrooms are legal in Jamaica also not that illegal means a whole lot in Jamaica

Alw1977 - sounds like we picked up the same hiker. Last July we picked up a guy on the way to Maho Bay Camps. Said he had just finished his month long work program and was going back to see some friends. He was hanging out on STJ until he decided where he wanted to go next. His house burned down in Alaska and he decided to work at Maho! Interesting and very nice young guy. Although my 15 yr old granddaughter and her best friend had huge eyes when he squeezed into the back seat - he was hot and sweaty from walking and they weren't too thrilled!!

Dave-a-roni---Actually, our daughters told us about the "running through the forest" invitation the next morning at breakfast and we were all pretty amused --- it became sort of a running joke about what we would do that night. If you saw pictures of the girls, its easy to see that this would not have been their idea of a good time. The guys that asked seemed like pretty nice, mellow guys---just into a different scene.

One of our friends on the trip did pick up some hitchikers but had no fun stories to tell---just somebody who needed a ride to Cinnamon Bay.

The only amusing STJ hitchhiker story we have (we pick them when we have room) is the young couple that we picked up at Salt Pond Bay and drove to Cruz Bay. She would not shut up about Depak Chopra and how his writings had changed her life and it was all about her experience like, you know, me, me, me, me. I commented that sometimes too much self-awareness (a central Chopra theme) could get a bit tiresome to those around you. Her boyfriend sniggered and she gave him a death glare.

We dropped them off in Cruz Bay and I could see little miss self-aware ripping him a new mind-body connection as he chuckled and she started smacking him. So much for "Peace is the Way."

Nine years later she's probably a jaded country club wife waiting for the pool boy to drop by.

I highly recommend giving people a ride. Obviously, use a little judgement when deciding which ones.
We've met a bunch of nice and interesting people that way and gotten lots of useful information.

The funniest thing I've heard was from a mid-twenties guy who grew up and lived on STT and had come over to STJ and all the way out to Coral Bay to visit a hairdresser friend who gave him a haircut.
He had waited for the bus but it wasn't coming and he really wanted to make the ferry so he really appreciated the ride.
When talking about what his impressions of the different parts of the island were,
he described Coral Bay as
"Kinda weird. It's like where all the old hippies go to die."
I told him it was where all the old hippies wish they could go to die.
And I hope to eventually be one of them.
