After reading some of the construction blogs of some of the , shall we say, "more modest" places, I can only imagine how much of a nightmare it must have been for someone to try and manage (and finish!) a place like that.

Anyone know when the house was started? I think I remember seeing the beginnings in the summer of 2002.

Augie - I think the same thing about the construction management of the project.

We are in the construction business and spent a great deal of time looking at the various elements of the house and discussing the materials, etc. (we are geeky like that.)

Not to scare anyone, but that whole region and string of islands throughout the West Indies were formed by lava and there's still volcanic activity in the area. I'm curious. Has anyone been on island (STT or STJ) and felt an earthquake? I was on island when there was one, but I didn't feel it. On the otherhand, I DID feel the one that hit us in Ohio a number of years ago. Yes, I said Ohio. It shook our house pretty good.

I'm torn about that house. In general, I detest mega-mansions and McMansions, but isn't the whole point of Peter Bay to be over-the-top and dripping with wealth? If you dislike that house, don't you have to dislike the whole development too?

I look at it very pragmatically: you knew some a**hole (meant in the best way possible) was going to come along and build a house of that price and calibre on the island at some point. At least this owner had the sense to build it so it blends into the environment. Could you imagine if someone tried to do a huge white, Mediterranean-style house there or similar?

Since the house really does "blend" as much as possible, I wonder if the owner took measures to make the house "green" in other ways. Any solar panels? It sounds dorky, but I'd love to see the size of their cisterns (that sounds like a pick-up line).

I felt an earthquake on STJ in June of 2007. My husband slept through it, but I always said that he could sleep through a tornado...I guess I should have been saying earthquake instead

I think the most expensive villa I've ever come across is Kismet. It rents for $38,500 a week at Christmas/New Year's

That's the kind of house I always think of as a "testament to someone's ego." No one needs that much space, it's all about show.

Or perhaps he's overcompensating for something really small?
