Robin in NC, agreed that the Feds have every right to regulate interstate and foreign commerce. What has happened hear is that they have punted on the unpopular national id card and have tried to force the states to create one by proxy. The states that cry foul on the hundreds of millions it is going to cost to implement the Federal statute are going to have their residents persecuted.
This will likely come down to an 11th hour extension to late January 2009. They'll make it the new President's problem on their second day in office.
McCain: "This is stupid. Repeal the legislation you idiots! I'm the President, don't you cretins know the difference between the executive branch and the legislative branch!? Another *&^#$%^ earmark"
Clinton: "This is the Republican's fault."
Obama: "This is hurting people's feelings. I think we should all take a deep breath and together decide the right thing to do."
No, I changed my mind. This will be a grotesque fiasco with no one quite sure whether they can travel or not for weeks of months at a time. Unless they have a passport. Mine's right here.
