Thanks for the reports and the pics! I've never felt drawn to Grand Cayman and your report kind of reassured me that St. John is more my style. Maybe I'll see it as a cruise stop some day and I know I'd have a great time if the trip was free, but I doubt I plan a vacation with my money there anytime soon!

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the reports Margo – I finally had time to catch up. There is no doubt about it – the very best part of the Caymans is underwater. As you mentioned – the water is just beautiful. And if you’re a scuba diver – the wall dives are out of this world. As far as I’m concerned – the surface is just a place for divers to sleep. But like you said – you had an opportunity to experience another Caribbean Island. Thanks again for the reports and pictures.

Cgirl - Do you have any info about Cayman Brac? I have often thought of going there but have never talked myself into taking the plunge. I know Grand Cayman is not really our style but I've heard the diving is great & that would make my hubby happy.

George - I've always heard that the Cayman Islands are the very best for diving. Too bad I'm such a landlubber!

Flip - I don't know much about Cayman Brac. We met a shop owner in George Town (the man who owns the place with the ice cream) and he was born and raised on Cayman Brac. He said we'd enjoy it more than Grand Cayman because it's like "the old days". I doubt it's anything like STJ when it comes to landscape, but I'm sure it's much more laid back than GC. If I ever go back, that's one place I'll definitely aim for! :D

Flip - hubby would definitely love the diving off of the Brac.

But is there anything else to do? Perhaps I should sacrifice for him since he does love the diving thing.

Flip - there's nothing to do on Grand Cayman, here's everything I can think of:

The Turtle Farm - Mini flip might like it
Stingray City - Worth the entire trip, but only takes 1/2 day
Shopping
Laying on the beach
I guess there are some good snorkeling spots, but I sure didn't find any. People recommend Cemetary Beach, but I don't know if it's really "good" or if they just have never been to St. John and just THINK it's good.

There's supposedly even less to do on Cayman Brac. If I was you, I'd let him go with "the guys" and then I'd take a "girls" trip to STJ at the same time!

We went last March, had the best time.
There are definitely some excellent snorkeling spots. Cemetary Beach was one, we liked Smith's Cove and the barrier reef near Sting Ray City (that was one of our stops on our SRC trip, along with Coral Gardens) and the snorkleing was pretty good right off shore from where we stayed, the Turtle Nest Inn, in Boddentown (you jsut had to get through some turtle grass first).

Let's see if these pictures work...
These pictures don't really seem to do it justice (bad photographer), but I remember thinking while we were there, that we didn't remember seeing anything like it on STJ.

Wow, you got some great shots! Obviously I didn't find the good snorkeling beaches :) Next time I travel alone!!! It's so hard to get everyone to agree to go the same places that I want to go - LOL!

Great reports CAGirl! We are taking SO's sister to STJ this summer and are interested to get her impression of STJ. She owns a condo on GC, but has never been to STJ.

We are dying to hear her impressions.
