I would love to do a sailing trip around the BVI's but some of the people in our group does not want to spend that kind of money.The best price I have found -of course I am sure there are lots of places I have not looked since i am a newbie at this- was $1950pp including food but not including airfare. Does that sound about right?

Might I suggest Sea Cay villa? It's in the Point Rendezvous area on the south side of STJ, probably only 5-7 minutes past Chocolate Hole. I've stayed in that neighborhood before, and will be staying there again in May. Although I haven't stayed in this villa, it looks nice and it's represented by Carefree Get-Aways, a good company that will be happy to discuss the details with you. It's priced at $2900 in low season (I assume you're going then, or you have no hope for that price), and I agree that the Chocolate Hole location over the pond isn't one of the better views on the island. Check it out.

Hale Lani is about $3200 now, I think, but it has four bedrooms. It is an awesome house and amazing views. Actually, my biggest obstacle in finding our place this year is that I haven't found anywhere with the views we had there.

Haiku is also in that same area, and I do believe it's around $2500 for three bedrooms. I'm not positive. Unless you're going the week we're going, then Haiku sucks and you don't want to go there.

Along with the “crime issue” on STX, there seems to be a stereotype about each of the USVI locations:

STT: Way too crowded

STJ: Paradise

Yet, there are quiet, beautiful parts of STT and gorgeous beaches that those who arrive by cruise ship or are just making a fast break from the airport to the ferries never have seen but this seems to be the prevailing info given out about STT.

It’s very unfortunate but the paradise that is STJ is getting paved, and the “paving” has really ramped up over the past couple of years. I hope that things will settle down on STJ as they have in the past when there has been a growth spurt but, right now, the infrastructure on STJ is dealing with some significant growing pains. Yet, STJ is more often than not presented as the only island in the USVI worth a visitor’s time. Maybe we all just want to remember how it was the first time we visited there. For me, that was the mid-80’s and I was immediately taken with the magic of the island. The STJ I remember from my first few visits is more like what the Coral Bay area and east end still are but I fear that the clock may be ticking for those areas, too.

Some of the other stereotypes are just funny – like, all Virgin Islanders are cold and rude. Or, the BVIs are much better than the USVIs – won’t even attempt to get into that one – lol.

My point: Is any one place or any one group of people ever all of anything?

That’s it – I’m getting down off my little rickety soapbox now – guess I’m just having a particularly feisty Wednesday - lol.. Sorry for kind of hijacking this post, but this issue has been rattling around in my brain for some time.

I'm confused at what you mean by 1950. per person including food, but not airfare. How did you come up with that number? I think most of us on this forum find a villa, look for the best airfare, and then figure in what we are willing to spend on food, drinks, excursions, shopping, etc. Are you trying to stay around 2500. for a villa? That's about 500. each for 5 people. If you're allowing 1950. pp and not including air in that, you'll can have a heck of a good time.

If you want to take a power cat around the BVI, I can recommend Rev. Stu. He does not charge to captain the boat, and he gets it for a better price than us tourists and you pay for gas. It comes to around 400.-425. total for the day. He'll take you where ever you want to go. Best deal and nicest guy you'll find. If there is another party that wants to go then you can split the cost. Sometimes he can arrange that. His web site is www.usviservices.com. You might end up getting a day on the water for 200.-250. for your entire group. But depending on the time of year, he may be busy with weddings, so you would need to contact him well in advance.

I must have misunderstood what the other poster wrote. I thought she was talking about a week long crewed sail around the BVI's. I checked into a week long sail for 5 people and the best price I found was $1950pp for the week including food. I am sure that is a good price but I know the other people in the group does not want to spend that much.

Since that was so pricey we choose to do one of the virgin island instead.

Sorry for the confusion. So back to the original questions...........what is your budget for a villa, what month do you want to travel, and do you have a preference for location? I've been looking at villas all week for a summer trip, so I have seen everything out there at least a dozen times.

We are are going this June and we would like to pay 2500usd or less for the week. We would like a/c and a pool. We are leaning toward St. John but we dont have nay location on the island in mind. Impossible to find something in this price range?
