RickG,
Are you just using "playlists" that you are creating manually, or are you taking advantage of the "smart playlist features"? For instance, you can rate your songs and then create playlists that only play your favorites, by ratings.
If you already know this, maybe some other soon-to-be-ipod-owners don't know. I LOVE "Smart Playlists"!

Look at you...a regular iPod pro...I love it!
I like to manually manage the playlists. Right now, I have the following playlists on my iPod:
Drifting...music to pass out to while drifting on a float in the villa's pool.
Guilty Pleasures...all the crap that only I like (No, ABBA's "Dancing Queen" is not on it.)
STJ...13 hours of island/reggae music.
Sunday Morning Coffee...Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, etc
Vistaero...music that my kids and I both like, for chillin' on the deck at Vistaero.
Playlists are the key to the iPods, in my opinion. Anyone else want to share the names of their playlists?

I like Playlists - I can mix and match some of my favorite; or keep albums (I mean CD's) together.
Here are some of my playlists:
Confessions of a Disco Queen - Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston, Weather girls, etc.
Janet's "C" Music - Eva Cassidy, Marc Cohn, Cher, Sheryl Crow
Janet's Workout - starts out slow, speeds up, then dies
Sports - rock&roll pt 2, We are the Champions, All-Star, Tessie, Gyro Ball
ABBA - All ABBA - including Dancing Queen

Pete's teasing me because it took me two years to get an ipod after he told me he thought I'd enjoy one. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.

Well, I do remember that discussion at the Banana Deck. Imagine Ruth speaking in a deep, heavy, Russian accent, "what is this iPod of which you speak?"

The only "mood" playlist I have is called "Up Up Up!"
I put in on in the store when employees come to work dragging their butts, yawning and playing sorrowful tunes. I'm not sure if it really perks anyone up or not, but I sing along and have a great old time.

What's on it?
We put that Pat Metheney song on the Drifting playlist, by the way. It's a perfect addition. Thanks for the tip.

Would that song be "Chris"?
Here are my playlists:
80's (remember Crockett's Theme, Axel F & Shock The Monkey?)
Christmas Music (recent)
Country (Kenny, Big & Rich, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill)
Island Mix (my STJ playlist)
New Rock Mix (stuff like Gwen Stefani & Pink)
Rock n' Roll Mix (everything from "Sleepwalk" to Shakira)
Smooth Jazz
Steel Drum Music
And I'll be adding a Putumayo playlist for some new music I just scored!

UUUGGGHHH! Well, I got the cool new Ipod Nano 8GB for Christmas. I have downloaded Itunes, connected it to the supplied USB port and my computer and............ NOTHING! Well, it did charge up, but the setup assistant won't run and Itunes does not recognize it at all. And since I can't transfer any music to it, it's pretty worthless at this point.
I visited the Apple website and forums and it seems LOTS of new 8GB Nano's are having this problem.
I'm a bit frustrated at this point.....!

There are alternatives to using iTunes for your iPod although I've never tried any of these. One of them is called Floola. Check out this video on Floola:

You may want to also research some of these too: Amarok, Banshee, gtkpod, MediaMonkey, Rhythmbox, SharePod, Songbird and YamiPod.
Did you try "resetting" your iPod? Good luck with it.

You probably know this already, but there is an Apple store at West Towne mall. They have a help desk in the back of the store.

Thanks Pete -
I didn't know about the Apple store and may head there today. Thanks for the link on their site too, I will try those things first. This has become quite frustrating and I'm wondering if I should return it and get something else.
Thanks again -
Tracy
