Ok, now I know I'm not totally nuts! We just had one installed and I saw it turning off and on while trying to boil water. It took forever! I told my husband it had to be broken! He thought I was going crazy because it would not do it while he was watching it!
You learn the darndest things here!

I have a Thermador and I've been very happy with it.

I have just read this topic today and have been wondering a lot. Cannot understand that no one mention
a induction stove. It's just the best. Works just like gas but easy to clean, no problem with the size of the pot, a warning if you switch it but forget to place a pot, not so easy to get burned (children) etc., etc.. I have tried different stoves, but would never have anything else than induction. The only problem is that you probably have to change your pots, but it's worth doing that.

Me mum has a ceramic stove with the same burner on/off issues. She uses her outdoor gas grill as a back up if she has to boil a large pot of water for lobsters or steamers or corn.

I hate it, I think it sucks. We grew up with a gas stove and ever since I moved out I've been plagued by electric. When we renovate, I'd love to go to gas.

My mum likes it cuz it's in her island so the flat top looks nice and cleans up nice.

My mother also has the ceramic, smooth top stove. I don't care for it. We went to gas when we remodeled our kitchen a few years ago and I love it. Her clean up is definitely easier though!
