When I feel overwhelmed and don't want to get out of bed, my mantra is:
KEEP IT SIMPLE.
In desperate times, keep it simple.
Focus on what is good and it will help you deal with what is bad.
Focus on what your skill level is in dealing with your current situation and do what you can- recognize your limits and work with them.
You cannot make everythting better everytime. Sometimes bad stuff has to happen and you just have to wait it out.

(((Hugs))) to Gromit from Kentucky!
It sounds like you have received a lot of good advice. I hope that things get better for you over the weekend. And I agree with the others ... Rum helps!

((((HUGS))))
Hang in there. Whatever it is can't last forever.
I too subscribe to the idea that 'someone doesn't MAKE you feel a particular way about something, you ALLOW yourself to feel that way'. When things get really hard I try to rearrange my brain according to that theory and find a way to ALLOW myself to get past those feelings I'm having. Not always easy, but often an interesting mental exercise that reveals interesting things about what's going on in my head.
That said, I love stupid jokes, so here are my contributions to help lighten your mood:
From my Laffy-Taffy the other day - Why do witches fly on brooms? Because vacuum cleaners are too heavy.
A string walks into a bar. Bartender says "Sorry, we don't serve strings here. String walks out, ruffles up his hair, knocks himself around a bit, ties himself and walks back into the bar. Bartender says "Didn't I just tell you that we don't serve strings here?", String says "I'm a frayed knot".

Hi Gromit,
Sorry to hear things are so stinky for you right now. Definitely have been there. I agree about throwing yourself into the work, if possible. Tonight, make yourself a nice cocktail and start looking at some STJ pics. In 22 days you will arrive in paradise, and hopefully your troubles will be forgotten for a while. When I arrived (this happens when I go to Hawaii, too), I felt like everything is sort of lifted off of me for a while. It's a true vacation! I hope the same for you. Just think of the beautiful landscapes, ocean, fish & people

Take care.

Hugs to gromit!
I recommend a nice deep hot bubble bath with some candles, soft steel pan music, and a glass of your favorite beverage when you get home. Melt that stress away!

Forumites,
Thanks so much for the virtual group ((hug)). I was in tears when I wrote my earlier e-mail and you all brought a smile to my face.
THANK YOU!!! Your words of support mean more to me than you know!
Hugs!

Hi Gromit,
I was hesitant to reply to this when I first read it because I've been having a few days like you describe, too and I didn't think I could add anything helpful. It's nothing devastating, but it's still stuff that stinks that you can't do much about.
There's been a lot of nice things said here, so I'll just add to it by saying thanks for sharing how you feel- sometimes even just that helps people. The sky will be a little brighter before you know it.

Grommit-
Go to the gym and workout or for a walk or a drive and let your mind go to a better place (STJ). And if that don't work, try a caribe, a painkiller , bushwacker or my favorite a minderaser (self-explanatory). Just kidding, think of all your friends here thinking about you and heres another HUG.
Here's hoping for a better tomorrow. That usually what I say right before I down that minderaser, again just kidding!

Hang in there Gromit! I second the gym/long walk thing if you can, preferably with your favorite tunes on the iPod. And when people are crappy and rude, I try to feel sorry for them, because that's a terrible way to live and it will catch up to them.

Gromit, try some retail therapy. There must be something you need for your trip...some nice pjs, a bright new tank top (on the clearance rack), a wallet for travel, or a new book. Shopping always cheers me up! Hope you feel better soon.

Hi, just remember we will be in St. John, soon come : ) really looking forward to meeting you. I had a sucky day too, I had a flat tire as I was pulling into a parking garage and had to go find a gas station in DC a half and hour before a photo shoot. I made it but spent the rest of the day looking for tires, no one had them in stock except for the dealer, and having to pay $900.00. Fitting for the weather we are having right now. Did someone say snow for tonight in DC area! Just do what I did when I got home, got the best blanket I had and curled up on the couch with a good book.
