RickG and Kellyanna I am wishing you luck on this trip as it seems that you might just be down there when they are in biblical proportians again!

Oh and for anyone that believes that not eating bananas helps...it doesn't! I have not touched a banana since probably last Christmas because of this wives tale or whatever it is and I was bitten numerous times on STJ and am STILL getting bitten in New Orleans as of last night

I suggest the tennis racket that Ruth sells if they are as bad as they were when the DBFT was down there.

As for me, I find they bite me the most when we go in town for dinner so every evening before we headed out while having our coctails, I doused my exposed limbs in mosquito repellent. Then right before bed, I had to remember to wash it off.

I am certain that the mosquitoes will be less scary for Halloween than they were in April. Wait, what a great idea for a Halloween costume. We could be a swarm of blood sucking insects! Nah, we'll leave those behind in Washington, DC.

Augie - I use the Green Head Bug Spray ( http://www.greenheadfly.com/main.html ) and it’s great. It does have DEET in it though. It’s a water base mixture and seems to last longer then the alcohol base sprays.

This time I am going to try the lemon Eucalyptus oil. Burt's Bees makes a spray based with this oil. I tried it and it comes out more like a squirt of oil than spray(messy). I made some of my own with cyclomethicone so it is more like a dry oil spray. UGH- I know October is rainy but dang mosquitoes! Ruth please stock up on those tennis rackets! I am sure we'll need them.

I'm in a sort of disbelief that the trip is really this close!

I hate those little vampires. They were outrageous during our last trip to STJ and I went prepared. I had the Picardin, the Deet, the Eucolyptus and the Skin So Soft. NOTHING worked. It's official. They're immune!

I'm getting Ruth's Bug Zapper in June. Still taking the sprays though. Maybe I'll luck out and one of them will work this time.

Urgh, I am all itchy just from thinking about this! Ruth, please reserve me one of everything you have in stock for pickup Thursday afternoon or Friday morning! It sounds like we are going to need it.

Would the insect repellant wipes count as a liquid, do you guys think? I might go see if I can find some of those...

You can carry-on the wipies. That's a great benefit. They are a bit more expensive, but you can use them in places, like a restaurant, where you cannot spray.

I also got kid friendly sunblock wipes with the carry-on thought in mind. I just flew with just carry-on this weekend (a MIRACLE YES) & did my due diligence with the 1 quart bag. Of course, as soon as I sat down on the plane I realized I had several things in my purse that technically shouldn't have made it through - hand sanitizer gel for one! And this was flying out of Reagan National airport! So much for tight security.

We will not even be attempting carry-on only for the November trip, but will pack a carry-on emergency if our lugguge doesn't get there bag with these thoughts in mind!
