You will absolutely love Sol y Sombra. We stayed on Mahoe last March as it was already booked but it is really stunning - but did take a peek from the driveway!

Dear Craig,
As the owner of the South Shore Villa (
www.stjohnrental.com) I believe I can provide a definitive answer about why we generally keep the unused bedrooms locked. First, let me say I appreciate your interest in our home and I do understand your feelings especially given the amount of money you are considering spending.
Having a home in the Virgin Islands is an expensive proposition. Property owners are generally charged by the hour for maid service and thus the expense of cleaning an additional bedroom can be substantial. Even if after a rental, an unused bedroom appears to have been unused, we must still clean it to make sure that all of our rooms continue to meet the highest standards.
I can also confirm that many of the expenses of owning a home in the Virgin Islands run considerably higher than a location stateside. I've personally paid electric bills running as high as $2,500 per month (thankfully this was our highest).
We keep the unused bedrooms locked to help minimize both the expenses associated with cleaning the bedrooms, but also to minimize the ware and tear on our home. Ultimately this benefits future guests as it helps keep our rates competitive and our home in top condition.
If you still believe it is unacceptable to have the extra bedroom locked, send me a private email at
southshorevilla@yahoo.com. We truly hope you book a stay with us. Our home is our favorite place in the world and I believe it will become yours once you have experienced a stay.
Kind Regards,
Larry

Larry - I completely understand your comments and was just wondering if (like another poster mentioned) the rental company lets the renters pick which rooms they are gonna use if they have only use for say two of the rooms.
By the way, the villa is GORGEOUS. I hope to one day stay there!!!
Thanks in advance,
nothintolose

Dear nothintolose,
Thanks for the comments. You are correct, and guests can choose whatever rooms they like. You will find that most management companies are very flexible with making all rooms accessible and the comments about locking the rooms are generally there to discourage people from taking advantage of the owners and management companies. We are very flexible and will even provide you with your choice of pillows (feather, soft, hard, overstuffed, etc.) if requested. We also have two firm mattresses and two soft mattresses. We aim to make our guest's stay as comfortable as possible.
If interested; we recently had the guys at Blue Tang Production make us a promotional video. You can see it at:

Larry

Sleehog,
Thanks. The villa is located about 7 minutes past the Westin: Continue past the Westin on the South Shore Road to Fish Bay Rd. At the bottom of Fish Bay Rd take Cocoloba Trail to the top of the mountain.

Larry

Larry,
Your home is beautiful! We watched the vide on-stjohn and it was on our short list to book for a week in May but it wasn't available. We'll definitely consider your home for a future stay. Thank you!
