Call me greedy, but I like to do two 2-week trips. One on the lesser expensive side and one on the more pricy side.
This past April we spent 9 days (I wish it had been two weeks!) at Sailview Guesthouse in Coral Bay, very affordable, but extremely comfortable.
In Nov-Dec, we'll spend one week at South Shore villa with another couple or two, then a week for two at Miles Away. Very nice villas at decent prices, both in the Fish Bay area.
With the huge travel hassle, 1 week just doesn't seem long enough.

I am never successful at "on the cheap" so I'm not answering this question

As Gromit and I often say we want 5 star at 2-3 star prices! Hence why we travel off-season. I just can't force myself to pay twice as much for the same digs!
My ideal really is 10 days on STJ either spring (Mayish) or late fall (November - we are trying it this year). AND 7 days somewhere else "cultural" we've done London. You know, somewhere with museums. And then a couple of shorties in there 3-4 nights in Mexico or Bermuda or wherever there is sand but only a direct 2-3 hour flight away.

Hey, Rick!
I got a place I can stay for free, and have a pretty good paying construction job. My wife, after 4 villa stays, won't even discuss it. Gee, I know it ain't 5 stars, but you can't beat the view and you're quite near Shipwreck!

I think that I could still handle it. It's got electricity, stove, king size bed. Gotta share the bath though!

Brad and I are going on the cheap next time ($1,000/week condo with AC but no pool or hot tub). It's in Cruz Bay. Accommodations are the only skimp. We love to visit restaurants and bars. Will be renting a Jeep. We thought we'd try it out. If we had more people in our group we'd go with a nice villa with AC, pool and view.

Who could argue with the proposition that two weeks is better than one? But I like my creature comforts, and going to STJ is my main splurge. So I'll take my one week living the high life. I like the nice villa, the dinners out, pretending I'm Mr. Gotrocks for a week. I like the a/c and the big pool and the plasma screens and the pillowtops. Sometimes I wish I were more like you guys...and sometimes, I can't understand why you're not more like me.

I'd go twice a year on the cheap. I think everyone would agree half the fun is in the planning, so if you went every 6 months or so, not only would it be a super get-away just when work was weighing you down the most, you'd get to always be in the planning stage

Well - we sure don't need plasma tv. We were at the last villa for a week and never even realized the tv didn't work. Not even sure if we ran the A/C. So, I guess we're pretty low maintenance although we eat most dinners out.
I'd give my eye teeth for a two week stay, but we can't string together that much time right now. I guess I'll have to vote for two one-week stays on the cheap!
