I like to be in an area with a view and one that has sailboats and activity to watch! So I choose Coral Bay area or Chocolate Hole area. A/C in bedrooms is a MUST for me, king sized bed or 2 twins, privacy in the villa, covered deck, price and a pool. In that order!!! :D

Clothing optional privacy used to come first for us, but, well, it's been 20 years. I can still hear the whispered echo of Jorge ....(nekkid).

If memory serves, doesn't one of you require a fountain to sit in?

Hmm, interesting question, especially since I just went through this about a week ago. Since I do all the trip planning, my villa calculus trumps my husband's. But in this case, after balancing all the usual factors, I had a tie. So I asked DH, "If you had a choice which would you rather have: 10 days at a mountain villa with owners on the premises and no hot tub, or 7 days at Creolla? (a secluded mountain villa with hot tub. We've stayed there before). He chose Creolla.

So what does this tell us? My preferences, in order are:
1) either high altitude OR A/C in bedroom (pretty much non-negotiable)
2) shady deck. Extra points for screened porch
3) beautiful view
4) novelty
5) extreme privacy
6) hot tub or pool
7) location: Coral Bay over Cruz Bay
8) location: central location over far corners

DH clearly ranks hot tub and privacy over novelty. In fact, novelty is probably not on his list at all.

Notice that $$ has been translated into "longer stay." I figure most people have a maximum they can afford to spend on vacation. The question is how you distribute that money. For me, the chance to stay a few days longer PLUS the fun of trying someplace new just about balanced out factors 5 and 6. For DH there was no question.

This thread cracks me up.

We go in August every year, so keep that in mind with my "calculus."

80% FULL HOUSE AC (I know, I know. This is CRAZY rare on STJ.)
10% Pool
5% WiFi (We have uber demanding jobs, and have to stay in touch for the two weeks we're on-island.)
5% Views

Everything else is icing on the cake.

We'll be back at Apito again this year. It definitely checks all of our boxes.

Less than 6 months to go...... :D :D :D

If it falls in our price range, we have a fairly short list of "musts". We like mid-island villas with good views. I would say a pool is a plus and my DH likes modern furnishings, but not having AC isn't a deal breaker for either of us.

We really liked Apito too, but have a bigger group this time and are staying at Island Sun in April.

That being said I DO NOT camp, but if that was the only way I could get time on the rock, I would camp out in a heartbeat!
