Update: We are firm on our travel dates of departure on 4/17/14 and returning on 4/28/14. After that shock re: Jet Blue coming in at around $1100 and $1400 per person, I was reminded that it is EASTER week. (Easter falls on 4/20/14.)

Realistically, I can not anticipate that those prices could come down anywhere near 50% - which would still be $550-$700 per person.

I looked at Expedia and saw a few decent deals that only had a couple of seats left at the best prices.

So, I went directly to the airlines and got Delta going down for $224.20 per person. Leaving Logan at 6:00 - change planes in NY - land in STT at 1:19. Then booked American Airlines for $249.20 per person. Leaving STT at 1:50 - change planes in MIAMI - land in Logan at 10:20. Long days of travel. But, ended up being just $473.40 per person.

Would have loved to have held out for Jet Blue to come down to something reasonable. But, just don't have a good feeling about that. So, thought I should grab those seats while they were still available. (That second leg has already climbed up to $310 per person.)

So, just be careful, folks - if you are trying to book around Easter. Again, that "could" be why Jet Blue is coming in so HIGH for that period.

Sue: We were also dumbfounded by Jet Blue prices in the second half of April of this year, at over $1000 RT from Boston. Easter wasn't a factor then, as it was quite early, falling on March 31st. However, we eventually realized that there was another explanation - school vacation. In MA and NH, and presumably the rest of New England, students get a week off in the second or third week of April, which greatly expands the pool of potential visitors, and the airlines know and take advantage of this. In New England, April can also still feel a lot like winter; at the least, it is a very recent memory, but we've also seen many an Easter with some snow still on the ground. Combine such motivation and the school break opportunity for parents with school aged children, and the airlines can easily fill their planes. They are very good at detecting patterns and pricing their tickets accordingly. Our takeaway was to simply avoid week two and three of April. So simply waiting for these weeks to come down might not be realistic. Thanks for your creative dodge flying Delta through NY; that could come in handy some day.
