I fee lthe pain, I was going to hop down, from Miami, in May and even then the cost was over $900. I think the airlines price it up on purpose because it is a frequent place for US folks to go...it is still the US. I can fly to Belize twice for this amount of money.

Just for heck of it, I looked up the same dates out of Philly. Of course, we can never find direct flight anymore and the connections are terrible. Came up with 885.00 pp.

I'm wondering if it would be worth it for you to take a multi city flight? Get down to Tampa, Ft. lauderdale or Miami, even Ft. Myers. and spend the night at a hotel. It may be cheaper. I know it's a hassle, but if you can save a bunch on each ticket?

We won't be going any time soon to STT. Those prices just hurt too much.

I've been watch the fares for months for our August trip expecting them to go down. No such luck they kept climbing. Finally booked last night because the fares jumped another $25 in a couple of days. Used to be able to get airfare between $400 - $500 out of central pa. Just paid $773. Could have gotten it a bit cheaper if i wanted to arrive late afternoon and leave around noon but didn't want to give up the precious time on island.

It even used to be that flying out of Philly or Baltimore were cheaper but that's not true anymore either. At some point these higher fares will probably take a real toll on tourism. Just have to put a little bit more away in the vacation fund each pay

5 years ago this May we paid 750.00 per person. That was a direct flight flight. What really gets gets me now is that you can't find any direct flights. Almost all go through Charlotte. You leave early, spend almost all day getting to STT. Then, coming home you down't get in until almost midnight.

Next year....I will def. have flights before booking house ! And they def. won't be on a Sat. to Sat. This time didn't have much choice. Others coming with us couldn't split vacation between weeks. And if we have to drive somewhere to get better prices....so be it ! Charlotte and USAir have gone nuts (greed) !

Hey....Teresa_Rae....long time ...no chat...when are you going back? :)

yeah... christmas and springbreak and presidents week-- the airlines KNOW they have you....now in addition to all the stupid fee's gas prices and everything we cannot get down there in 'high season ' from NYC (and we have several airports to choose from ) for less than 700 pp and that is planning WAY out. i was looking at costs in august and seeing outrageous fees-- this trip used to be about 300 RT!

This really is absurd. It likely will cost our family of 6 about $6,000 just to get to STJ. Add that to the villa and we could buy a third world country instead. Ugh. What the hell were we thinking. Can I have a do-over?

We typically go to St John in January with girlfriends, many of who are from WI. Next year we are heading to Cayman because flights from ORD to Cayman are $416 RT. Things are really high for St Thomas, it's crazy.
If it weren't for the frequent flyer miles, our trip in December would have needed to be to a different location as well.

If you dare to fly Spirit, it is $604 on your dates from Chicago. Although keep in mind the additional charges would cut into the savings. Good luck! I know later dates in Jan are attractive - just saw $500 from Ord in mid Jan.

We are going late Dec/early Jan as well and Delta flights out of MSP to connect in ATL to STT were filling fast. There are 7 of us (2 families), and we want to travel together, so we bit the bullet and booked. The best we found was $955 using kayak. Add all the tax/fees and we paid $1021 each. Ugh! Newbie friends are traveling with us and if they don't "get" STJ they are going to think we are insane!
Here's the strange thing... Our flights between MSP and ATL (both ways) are first class!?! (Unfortunately not first class for the STT flights). $200 CHEAPER per ticket than if we were coach for all flights.
I don't understand that at all - but I'll take it! :D

I know that Sun Country just released their STT flights out of MSP. Would that be an option for you?
