Wow, where are you staying on Jost? I expect you will have the island literally to yourself! Make sure you have a car or a boat.

Rick G,

Was the house well-maintained? I like the idea of a classic-caribbean style house.

Very well maintained by Pete. All of the screens and mosquito net holes are patched. Pete stopped by mid-week to clean the pool - there is so much foliage that the pool is a bit of a leaf magnet. We skimmed the pool and swept the walk ways twice while we were there. With mature foliage and lots of rain there were a lot of leaves around. I'll take the leaves and the foliage any day rather than 3 year old non-native nursery plants.

Pete's mobile number is listed along with the owners' numbers in a picture frame with a "call for any reason" message.

The house is a labor of love. But, no A/C and no screens in 3 of 4 sleeping areas. Mosquito nets were romantic until the mosquito plague began. This is not a villa where the bedrooms are perfectly private. Great for a family. I would not want kids under 5 or seniors that had mobility challenges due to uneven walkways. For my gang, this place rocks.

Cheers, RickG

I can relate to your feelings about the foliage. We rented the other Kallaloo and the landscaping was beautifully mature and lush - truly felt like paradise - but we did have to skim the pool daily.

I am going to stick your Callaloo on the short list. One of these days we will stay over towards Coral Bay.

Glad the two of you had a great vacation!

RickG,
I'm enjoying your report....sounds like you and "sweet Christine" had a wonderful vacation. Looking forward to the next installment. Did you like staying in the Coral Bay area versus Cruz Bay?
We were thinking about a trip next May....but all the skeeter talk has me rethinking it. mia

This was our 12th St. John trip, along with many BVI land-based trips. This was our first skeeter fest. Just pick the week before the big rain, rather than after. I'd rather have skeeters than torrential rains.

We love Coral Bay. I've booked Easter Week 2008 with the kids in Coral Bay. We'll be able to walk to Aqua Bistro and Island Blues. The walk up the hill will be less fun. The kids love riding at Carolina Corral and they'll be able to ride three days if we're on that side.

For Halloween, we are staying on Great Cruz Bay. This is our adult party-party group. Being close to the variety of Cruz Bay is important for them. We'll do 2 or three days on the Coral Bay side anyways between Vie's Beach, lunch at Skinny Legs and Kiddel Bay.

So, Cruz Bay vs. Coral Bay? It depends on the group dynamic. On our last trip we went to Cruz Bay frequently as well.

Cheers, RickG

Sounds like fun. If you meet Mary from White Bay Villas at Red Hook with your provisions, tell her we said hi.

We were on JVD in October in 2004 and things were very quiet. We stayed with Gertrude and there were plenty of locals about. Ivan's was pretty quiet, but we hung out with Tal there.

Good luck!

Cheers, RickG

Tal is always there...........Ivan is family to me....his son and I were a couple and Bully passed away suddenly in Sept 2005.....Ivan comes out every summer on the road......I keep missing him so it has been too long since I have been able to be on island with my mom being so sick........
Now that she has also passed on, I am trying to get back to island.........
My buddy who always stays in White Bay has not told me the plan for provisions......
I pretty much have not stayed on White bay for more then 2 nights so this will be a real treat!!!

Is Mary someone who works with White Bay villas?
