Hi Bill,
We went on the trip when my son was about 7 months old, and it was our first time to leave him at home with the grandparents - so we tried to get in and out quickly. I have FF miles with Delta from work, so we flew into Barbados and then took SVG Air from there directly to Bequia. Certainly a ferry from St. Vincent seems to be the most common method of getting to Bequia. I believe our connection was through Atlanta, and I'm also not sure that Delta still has service to Barbados (when I checked last year, they had terminated the service). You can also take LIAT from Barbados to St. Vincent and then the ferry.
Do you eat fish? Sorry if that is a dumb question, but if you eat fish, you will find it everywhere. I'm guessing you can also find Roti's at many places with potatoes. There is also a vegetable market right near the almond tree downtown, and it is a big one. So if you have a kitchen, you should be able to get things together. I just checked the Frangipani hotel's restaurant menu, and they have a number of pasta dishes that I'm sure you could order without the chicken. We loved eating there.
I'm thinking of planning another trip. Gotta figure out now how to get there on Delta...
