Search update:
So something is definitely fishy with the search - but - I finally resolved the issue with the old forum and not being able to re-direct it, etc. So - if you use the Google search in the upper right hand corner, you will get results (for Flanders, etc.) that should find the info you need -

Anthony,
I feel so stupid because when my search for FLanders still only pulls posts from new forum. the same results for fun and contentment. See my search results below. I am entering from main forum webpage for St John. What am I doing incorrectly?? thanks..

Re: Working out the kinks!
Anthony,
when you return from vacation
please search this forum for Flanders.
that is a villa I researched on the old forum, and I know there are multiple posts.
when you search on new forum, you receive no hits.
thought this was an easier way to explain by example.
have a great vacation.....

Anthony agrees that the new search tab still does not work properly, but using the "Google Custom Search" box at the upper right corner will bring up previous posts from the old site.

CBama - what lprof said
I have deleted the search index, made some adjustments, and am in the process of recreating it. From what I have read, this may take a looooooooooong time (literally hours).
The initial index may have been truncated for some reason (like a server crash - which did happen...) - so let's see that if later today it is not working better.

Sorry to be so dense
I see the google search now
Just knew someone looking for information wouldn't get results from old forum using the search I was using
I will use the other until resolved. Sorry for the difficulties

Aha - so - as I think I mentioned, the server is indexing the forum for search, which started earlier in the day. Well, it is about half way there 10 hours later!
The good news is that it is working - a search now for Flanders Villa does yield some results:
http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/v ... d%5B0%5D=1
The problem was that when I first upgraded the forum and re-built the search index, the box crashed and I didn't realize the search build would take so long, so only a tiny fraction of the over 300k posts got indexed. I will let this run all night and then everything should be in there.
I think this leaves me with just a couple to dos - if there are any reminders please let me know.

When I access the whole forum site I use the 'view new posts' since that way I can see all the different forums.
This doesn't reset however - since the new format started - so just now it has archived 169 'new posts' instead of just the most recent - I don't logout but never had to before, it is not a big problem , just different.

Just an FYI to everyone that I am not done yet - I know there are issues with the viewing of new/latest posts, etc. And I also think the whole look and feel is a bit busy and dark - I just did not have the time to do all the tweaks I wanted before launching this thing. I also forgot (!) that I did not even display the Smilies icons in the previous version of the forum... not sure if I am going to remove them again or not -
Anyway - still not home and back to "work" (soon!) but there is more tweaking to come and your ideas and feedback are always appreciated.

I think ExitZero and someone else was still looking for a better solution to view new posts and/or marked as read.
Can anyone chime in here with specifics again? I would like to try to tackle this -

We just got rid of the right hand column in hopes of giving some more space to read and for photos -
I am also working on a mobile version of the forum...
More soon -

Is there a trick to sending someone a PM? If I click the PM button in someone's post I am unable to send the PM. It always tells me there is no member by that name even though the name auto populates. Very frustrating. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you, makes it less " busy" and easier to read I think.

I just tried it and had the same result.
