We have always checked a bag and never stress about baggage claim. There is the nicest little tiki bar to grab a cold one from while you wait for your luggage! These island folks have it all figured out.

In fact, last month our suitcase was one of the first ones out and we just stood around and finished our drink before we went out to get the taxi. We still ended up on the same taxi as some of the folks who grabbed their bags and ran like mad people to get a ride.

I've bought bug spray, OFF lanterns and refills, bacon, beef, songs on itunes, two pair of shorts and three sundresses, an otter box (last year ours leaked), and we'll probably each buy a few books. Real books. We don't take ipads/kindles out of the condo.
My husband

has bought me several bathing suits that will likely never see the light of day. Our divergent tastes....I want a burkah and he wants..............something else.
I like the idea of blowing up a mat and finding a kiddo to gift it to when I'm done with it

As a sidenote about giving the floaty mat to a kiddo on the beach, I always quietly ask the parent if it's ok to offer it to the child first. I think I look like a nice person but I don't want the parent to get the wrong idea about a stranger talking to their kid and I really don't want any tears from the kiddo if the parent would rather say no.

Jealous!
I just got a Vivatar, recently had to buy a new telephoto lens for my DSLR, so I just couldn't justify a very big camera purchase after that.
Don't have the telephoto for my DSLR yet - maybe next year. I've never had a bonafide waterproof camera before - always used a housing in the past, so I'm very excited about this one. I think it'll take awhile to get over the strange feeling of being able to take the camera directly into the water though.

(So far), I've purchased:
1) Keen Whisper sandals (the shame, the shame)
2) Aqua pouch thingie
3) FFFWD
4) baseball cap
5) "dressy" flipflops
6) Bug spray with Deet
7) A fancy "ziplock" thingie for underwater protection...for my camera.

(BTW, has anybody had success with something like this? It got pretty good reviews)

What else are us newbies missing on our lists of "must haves?" (I've already added the inflatable rafts and B12 on my "to purchase" list...lol).
I purchased the DicaPac for our trip 2 years ago and love it! We have used it on 2 other trips and it has held up well. The only suggestion I have for you is to make sure the camera lens is in the middle of the "lens" on the bag. On a few of our pics, we had a black border on the side because the bag got in the way.
I'm obssessed!

And I don't have a trip in my future!!!! I have my neat sheet, Canon D10 (don't go with a disposable!! Terrible pics, IMO), Keen's, Chaco's, have learned how to fly with a carry-on only, binoculars, sunhat, new mask, old snorkel, and no trip in sight! DROP, airfare, DROP! Enough to make DH return again to a previously visited place!

We are going to try out the new Olympus TG-310 next week. We use the housings for diving but they all leak sometimes. We thought we'd try the waterproof camera in a housing. Even when the case leaks the camera should survive.

Man! I had been doing so good for this trip not buying much. What's a KYSS bag? I may need to get one of these. Are they as good as they little commercial says it is? Should I get the large or medium? Will wrapping the chain around a beach chair really help or will I loose the beach chair too? I'm really interested in everyones take on this bag. Oh by the way....I have a bag obsession

Funny thing is that we are coming up on our 4th trip and it never fails that we "discover" something new we absolutely have to have! This time those items include:
1. Bag safe (forget the brand name)
2. New fins
3. New pack-pack style polar bear cooler
4. Waterprook pouch
Already had the Keens, neat sheets, old school polar bear cooler, and multiple waterproof cameras.
St John trip soon come!

The bag is super cute. I haven't used it yet, but just from looking at it and playing around with it I think it's great. I would think that attaching it to the chair would deter the "grab and go" thief. I'm hoping to find a tree, as I will need some shade close by anyway. I got the large, and it's really roomy, should have no problem fitting all my beach goodies in there.
Ask me again when I get back what I thought of it, by then I will have had practical experience!

Michigan Girls - The pluralizing of your name has piqued my interest. Is there a story here?

LOL, not really. When I initially set up the account it was so both myself and my travel buddy Sherry could use it. Of course when she went to use it I had neglected to give her the password and she couldn't get me on the phone - so now she is "Michigan Girls #2"
