Do you take good pictures? If so, maybe make him a photo book when you return (shutterfly or my publisher kinda thing).

There's good cheap art store at Skinny Legs too. I bought a couple of multi-media matted pieces there and there were a lot of great mosaics and glass pieces there too. I think the gallery is Szygy (sp?).

The gallery behind Skinny's, by the horseshoe pit is called Syzygy Art Gallery. They have pretty much all price ranges of unusual pieces. Barr Lewis makes incredable glass masks and unusual collage art and Lisa does the glass mosaics. They are nice folks and their stuff is very unique STJ.

Some more random ideas based on my trips to other islands (I know some aren't on STJ): snuba, chartered fishing trip, a massage at Westin spa, henna tattoo of petroglyphs, swim with the dolphins, horseback riding on the beach, hair braided, photo shoot on the beach, private lessons of whatever.....

Didn't someone recently mention a private photography lessons with Steve Simonsen?

I remember last time we were at Gecko Gazebo/Sun Dog Cafe in Mongoose Junction having some drinks, they were served in these beautiful hand painted glasses. I remember reading on the menu that you could buy them at one of the art shops in Mongoose Junction. If memory serves, they were about $10 each. You could have drinks there, buy a set of 4 glasses and you would have 1) souvenir 2) art 3) cool gift for a guy who likes his kitchen 4) something made on St. John all for under $50. It's an idea. I scrounged around and found a pic:

JT- Yes, that's the spelling: Syzygy! Very unique stuff. The matted pieces I bought are Barr Lewis pieces. I almost bought one of Lisa's glass pieces but thought for sure I would bust it on the way home :). I shoulda bought it and had it shipped  .

How abut something with the petroglyph design on it? I saw one place that had petroglyph rings, but I think they were more than %50. My Hook ring was $70 if you want to stretch.

I like the art and day sail ideas. We did New Horizons II to the BVI's and loved it. That might be a bit costly unless you skip dinner like you mentioned. If you are not familiar with the excursion, it is a powerboat that stops at The Bath's, Marina Cay, snorkel stop, then White Bay on JVD. Lunch not included. It really was an exceptional day.

There is also a shop in Mongoose Junction which we like alot but the name escapes me. It is to the left when you walk in near Sun Dog Cafe. My husband got some very nice swim trunks there. Lots of great stuff that you can't find just anywhere in the states. Teva's, Reef shoes etc. Thinking this suggestion might be too "feminine", but what the heck  . My hubby is not a shopper at all, but he kind of likes browsing around Cruz Bay.

Ruth posted the following back in January:
This is cool. Just heard about this today....
Steve and Janet Simonsen are starting a new venture, the St. John Photo School. They have a web site listing course descriptions, but no events scheduled on the calendar as yet.
If you have an interest in film and photography, bookmark this site and check back. Maybe something will appear during your scheduled time on St. John.
I recommend the Ipod introductory class. I had mine in a box for a month and was petrified of it until I attended one of Steve's seminars!
