Yes, to the first part, no to the second--that is, yes, you should be respectful, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go there. Just remember it's a family home, and a very personal one, because of the deep ties these people have to this place. A little good manners go a looooong way.

I love this forum. There is always so much to learn. Gibney is on my list for January. I've never been there. Is there parking for two vehicles?

I actually met the second Gibney there on the beach with her son. She was very nice and we had a great conversation. They never gave me the feeling that they would not want me there. In fact, she seemed to like the company. I love this beach and the only problem I have ever had is finding a parking space.

Just a follow up to say I have no idea who the unfriendly woman was that my wife and I walked past at Gibney...I just figured since we saw her on 3 different occasions, 3 years apart, and in front of the cottage, that she must be connected in some way.

Regardless, it sounds like the Gibneys are wondeful people who care very much about STJ. Hopefully we can all continue to enjoy the beach.

Thanks to Coco for setting that straight.

If we were dropped off at Hawksnest by taxi and wanted to over to Gibney, would we just walk to that big gate and down in? Would that be a dangerous walk along the road?

I would not recommend that you walk from Hawksnest to Gibney. It's an uphill walk on narrow roads, and it is further than you think. Either have the taxi take you to the Gibney gate (which they will do), or snorkel from Hawksnest to Gibney.

Have done the swim before but would like to go hang with a book & towel (both dry!!). My mental picture does not have the distance as that great between Hawksnest & Gibney on the road so that's why I asked. Thanks for the advice!
