Thank You - I do try to remain positive about the islands that have been my home for many years, but have lapsed into an occasional rant about the rapid commercialism. But when someone asks about reading and learning some of the history and culture here though it brightens my hopes and I dig into my library to try and shed some light onto some of the literature available that can give an interested individual a wider viewpoint about how the VI has become what it is today.
It is the people of the Virgin Islands that have always made me able to appreciate the natural beauty around us all.

I have to agree with the others on Don't Stop the Carnival. Another good read is Adrift on a Sea of Blue Light.

Thanks Exit Zero - I hadn't heard of My Island Kitchen before (just ordered a copy).

I would also add Grandma Raised the Roof by Ethel Walbridge McCully and Escape to the Tropics by Desmond Holdridge if you can find them.

This is an excellent thread which comes at a great time for me. When I was younger (really young as in elementary school) I enjoyed reading, but as I grew up I saw it as more of a waste of time than anything. Now I realize that I actually do still enjoy reading but it HAS to be something Im really interested in, otherwise it isn't gonna happen. Thanks for the recommendations!
