CG...at this time we wont't buy. We have my Mom who hasn't been doing well.

We also have our primary home, which I love. I also have my babies, 3 cats, Captain Jack, Lucy Bell and Tiki.

We have a condo down in NJ that husband would never sell, so the only option we have is to do a PMV in Florida.

I know the prices are so low in Florida, but so are the rentals. I found some in Treasure Island that are crazy low.

I have lived in South Carolina most of my life except for 13 years of nomadic travel with S/O in restaurant business. My vote is Hilton Head Island. I go every year for a 4 day conference and love it. It is laid back, really nice restaurants and beach. Also Kiawah Island (lots of money), Folly and Edisto have that old community beach vibe. Myrtle Beach is my least favorite because I'm not a fan of huge Vegas type attractions.

Having just spent a very fun, long weekend on Amelia Island, I suggest that you give her a look... yes, the ocean is chilly in the winter, but not much else is lacking, in my opinion.

You might want to take a look at Venice, FL. Its a bit south of Sarasota. My parents live there and I love it down there. You are close enough to Sarasota and even Tampa to do things there, the beaches are nice, and its more "Small townish" feel than Ft Meyers or Sarasota. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants. I don't know about rentals since I get to stay at my parents for free:) Sanibel is about a 2 hour drive from Venice, and Tampa is about an hour and 15 min.

If you are in Sarasota, definitely eat at Marina Jacks and walk out to the park, as the OP mentioned. Its built up there, but a pretty area with lots of nice boats. Siesta Key is an island in Sarasota and has quite a few short term rental units. Its a beautiful, long white sand beach.

Have you considered the Panhandle? The beaches are goregous as is the water but you don't have to travel as far to get other places. We are in New Orleans, and it's a 5 hour drive (sometimes less depending on traffic). We have stayed in Destin, Pensacola, Panama City and Rosemary Beach. There are alot of towns in between. We have also stayed in Navarre Beach which I love because you have the Gulf on one side and the bay on the other.

Just saw this post by accident. If you have not made your purchace, I can recomend Panama City Beach and just
West.(The further West you go the more cash you will spend. Rosemary, Sea Side, to Destin run higher.) We have lived here for 25 years and love it. The deals have been crazy amazing lately. Condos that sold for over 600K are now going for 150K and 175K. The water is beautiful, the sand is soft and white, and there are many family friendly things to do and good resturants. Spring Break is tough, and we do have some cold weather in the winter (but the last snow was 20 years ago).
