We did the spring break thing this year ... left the friday before the friday before easter and returned the monday after. April 15-25 I think.

It was totally fine. I got cheap tickets on an alert I had set up - under $300 pp.

As for sitters, we've done it both ways - taken one and also gotten sitters on island. We have had great luck both ways. On island sitters ended up being cheaper, but our sitter that we took along loved it.

I have always gone through Christy's for my sitters and have had the BEST people every time. And for each trip, the person we had was consistent. Meaning if we got a sitter for 3 nights out, it was always the same person. My kids actually COMPLAINED that we came back too soon one night of our most recent trip. I think they like hanging out with a different person than mom and dad!

Flip - once our kids are a bit older (probably 3 and 5 or 2 and 4), we'll definitely use on-island sitters! I have this thing about kids being able to self-report. If they can tell you they like the sitter (or don't like the sitter), then it's cool to try an on-island option. Ours will be so young that I prefer to take someone the kids know. Separation anxiety is a b*tch.

Totally agree --- our oldest was 3 the first time we used on island sitters, and though her bro was under 2, she certainly was old enough to report back.
