Mrs. JT&I throw caution to the wind on this. We don't do the high end eateries very often, but we do tend to drop $100 a day easily. We aren't well to do, but we hustle hard to have lots of cash for STJ when we go. I mean hell, 2 burgers & 6 beers between us at Skinny's is easily $55 with tip. Spend an evening hanging out at Island Blues eating, drinking and tip can hit $75, no problem. We do spend more time in the evenings in the bars then most people do. Shoot, the first year we went down there we both had weird scabs on our elbows after the first week. Took us a while to fiqure out it was "bar elbows."

On our trip down in June, I wanted to try and keep just the food expenses around $1000 for the week. We don't eat high end either because of the picky peeps. Also because they do travel with us, We don't turn into vacation alchies. A drink or two (or 3 or 4 at the villa) and we're good. More than half the mornings I cooked breakfast in the villa. That $1000 wasn't enough so next time I'm doubling it. I hate worrying about prices on vacation so I really try to make it so we don't have to (although Honey practically bitches himself into a coma even if we have plenty).
It's probably a pain for a lot of people but I find it easier to plan a separate budget for food & drinks, charters and spending. Especially the spending. The little man doesn't ask for much and Honey just wants booze and t-shirts so that leaves the Gimmie Girl and I and unfortunately we sometimes "dip" outside of our fundage, and into Honey's.
I guess my point is although you can do it "reasonably," that reasonably may be more than you think. Like another poster said, it goes FAST!
