Is is interesting that the two people that have weighed in as having a bad experience both sent their box WAY ahead of time.

We have shipped three times, each has taken less than a week - usually 3-4 days....

I have no idea how the boxes that were not recieved were sent, but that could be the issue.
I truly think that you are throwing money away if you do not use flat rate priority mail boxes with delivery confirmation.

I am planning on rolling the dice and sending mine. I have the flat rate boxes. It is being shipped to the owners at Samuels Cottages.. crossing my fingers. If it doesnt work.. well, I'll just have to suck it up and buy some lotion, snacks when we get there!

Xislandgirl - I described how mine was sent, and it was Priority Mail Flat Rate ($15), with tracking, sent from the Post Office Counter here, addressed to the property manager.

I debated back and forth about sending a box. I have decided to do a checked bag which I have never done going to the islands, but in a checked bag I can pack my walking poles and bring my pillow.
Anywho, pack some sugar cubes for the bananaquits, so cute to watch on your balcony. Laura

I tried shipping our bulky snorkel stuff back this past February. It didn't weigh that much and it still would have cost $45. Pay the $25 or whatever baggage fee to keep it under your feet in the cargo hold.

On a side note, I've shipped small items to a friend on the island to hold for me and she advises not to put c/o (care of) on the package because there may be an extra fee at the post office. Has anyone experienced this?

Have you guys been getting all the rain in CT that we have here in Maine? So sick of rain!!

2 boxes are for me, the other 2 are filled with gifts for my on-island friends.

Crazy rain here too, but 9 days to STJ and then when we get back, 9 days later we head to Maine!

Second trip to the post office this morning to file a claim to get my $15 back for the box that never arrived, but both times the line was sooo long it wasn't worth it. :( I'm assuming since I sent it Delivery Confirmation, and it was never delivered they owe me that much.

I also got thinking, don't bother insuring these boxes since most of the contents are illegal to mail anyway ;) (liquid, perishable, etc.).

Sending package

I just sent a box flat rate from Knox. Tennessee on Wednesday April 27th and it arrived on Monday May 2nd. I also sent one last year to Samuel's Cottage with no problem. It was waiting for us in the cottage when we arrived. Patrice the owner is super. Good luck and have a great trip.
