My worst instance was a couple of years ago when, on morning of the second day, we opened the door out to the pool area and found the tarantula laying in the doorway. We were able to get it onto the broom and dropped it over the side of the deck. Didn't feel like we should kill it. Of course, the second smaller one that I discovered climbing the wall behind the TV several days later didn't enjoy quite the same consideration. I was thinking - one's okay, two's a nest. The wife and girls had just gone to bed and I didn't bother to tell them about that one until we were packing up Saturday morning.

Last year, in our LAST year at our old favorite villa (it is now under major renovation...it needed A LOT of work), one morning I went to open a new roll of toilet paper (I was still in a rather vulnerable position I might add) and a scorpion was living happily inside the new roll. I'm not sure who was more distressed about the incident...me or Mr. Scorpion.
You know what I think are the grossest bugs on island? Those slimmy black things that look like fat worms. They climb the walls, they make their way very slowly but, you never know where you might encounter one on your way around in bare feet. Apparently, the ooze they leave in their wake is very potent.

I'm really together when we're talking about itty bitty ants, but I'm not so cool about scorpions and tarantulas. I have never seen either in a place I live. I'm probably tempting fate by even putting this in writing. I sincerely hope I never have any of these types of critter experiences.

mb, we did have food laid out on the counter regularly (Joe's, Pizza, snacks, drinks) and never had any problems at all. I did keep everything nice and tidy though. We did not take the garbage out everyday but more like every 2 or 3. The only critters we saw at the villa were a few lizzards, the black milipedes (outside), and tons of mosquitos.
Of course that does not include Mr. Hairy Big Turanchula that came over for drinks in the hot tub one evening. Just sayin...

Alright - Villa Caribe is a 5 bedroom house on Rendezvous Bay with a huge deck, on the order of 5,000 square feet. The kitchen and the dining room are outside. So, we were spending all of our time at the house arrayed around the pool and the covered dining area.
One night one of the ladies heard some skittering around in a corner and we saw a fruit rat trying to get out of an alcove. One of the guys tried to goad her gently out and she progressed to pee all over the place, run around under all of our feet and ended up in the pool.
We get her out of the pool with the pool skimmer and put her over the side of the deck in the foliage. Why do I say her? Because all of the guy fruit rats in the area kept dropping by and going after her sent she left in one area of the deck, where she had pee'ed. Only one or two of the folks were really freaked out.
I thought it was pretty funny. Of course, I had been taking my medicine all day and night from the blender and the cooler.
Cheers, RickG

Do you just mean Fruit Rat Women, or all womens in general?
In the general duscussion about critters, I completely forgot about the fruit rats. Ick. I am thankful that I have never seen one of those up close and personal.

Marcia (Mrs. Pete) - had that same thing happen to me in my house - only with a huge a$$ roach - scares ya' and you are sitting on the toilet helpless
Kirk - have those same critters taunting my dog EVERY night - they drive us crazy! They hang around our yard and my dog is obsessed with them. They taunt him.

p.s. I think the lizzards with the fan like tails are so cool - don't have them like that here.
