Don't feel sorry for me. I go on vacation having zero expectations. I have traveled extensively and firmly believe that all trips have their own merit. I wasn't looking to replace STJ with STX rather quite the opposite I appreciated STX for what it had to offer and we certainly had a great vacation (haven't had a bad one yet!) my point was that I do love St John and I missed it that's' all plain & simple. Life is about the journey.More importantly you'll never know until you go. STX is a fabulous place but just not for us.

Morning coffee view

Paradise Found from the water pool house on the left main house on the right, pool in the middle

Beach shot- I have it marked as Cane Bay but I think it's the beach at the buccaneer.????

Sunset pool view

Capt Llewellyn s boat Charis taken from the beach at Buck Island

Sugar Mill from the beach at Coakley. How cool would it be to have your own sugar mill? I would make it a awesome cocktail spot!

Sea view from Point Udall- It was beautiful there.

WOW...I for one am shocked! You seemed to have missed the best beaches, shopping (I'm not big on that either) but it's certainly here and available. The activities are so non stop, we can't keep up, (even if we wanted to do it all). Sorry you didn't seem to get the best info to completely enjoy all STX has to offer!

dejavu.....I do believe that is a small part of Cane Bay where you Dive "THE WALL", not The Buccaneer. Thanks for the pics!

STX lady- Once again I will stress, it's nothing against STX we had a great time and I would suggest STX as vacation spot to anyone who asked, but WE just like STJ more. I think we hit most of the beaches:
Coakley
Buccaneer
Shoys
Green Cay- Tamarind Reef
Smugglers
Sandy Point
Divi
Cane Bay
Dorsch Beach
Buck Island
Prune Bay
Issac Bay
Maybe I missed a few and I apologize if I gave anyone the impression I disliked STX. It's a beautiful island with great people.

Nice pix, dejavu, although it looks like you had some hazy weather.

Isn't it interesting how subjective travel is? My first trip to Ireland I was convinced I would never return, ancestors be damned. I finally returned and totally fell in love with the island. Ireland was still there but I was in a different place myself.

I think it's often tough to "get" a new place in a week or week plus. We are still learning about the places we have returned to again and again. We try not to compare new places to those where we have been the most comfortable but it's inevitable, isn't it?

Good for you for trying something different.

Just want to say that if there were a competition between the 3 islands, we would have STJ as a winner. But even though we visited STJ before STX, we never said to ourselves that we regretted not being more days on STJ instead of visiting STX. We enjoyed the experiences, STX had to give, which STJ didn’t have, and we wouldn’t have been without the days on STX.

People are different.

The other day I was to my very good girlfriend’s birthday party. A couple of days later my girlfriend and her hubby were going to Thailand, which is their paradise on earth, and which they have visited every year since they found it. It was the same for more of the other girls, so the girls talked about the different places in Thailand, the hotels, the restaurants etc.. I couldn’t really participate. We have been in Thailand once and found it very lovely, but we like to experience other places too. And because of that we have the luck to experience USVI, which we still are happy for.

On the other hand I also understand that it gives something special to return to a place you know, and where you feel you are “home”. We visit Spain every year, which we still enjoy.

But I’m still looking forward to see more places in the world.

People are different :D .

Interesting...

In my house big decisions go to a vote also.

EagleRayLover gets four votes, our two sons get one vote each, and I get to cast the deciding vote in case of a tie...

Hpw come I didn't know about this voting system until i got on this Forum??

So well said but I agree with dejavu. We too have been traveling to St John in Jan the last three years. We thought it was time for change and had wonderful Tahiti New Zea land trip booked for next year. As my husband was sitting on the beach the last few days he was actually whining and saying why are we not coming back next year. We came home and it just did not feel right and canceled other trip and booked St John for next year. It is hard to explain but it felt for us right now it is where we want to be.

We too travel to other places and enjoy the experiences each place brings. We are so looking forward to Galapagos trip in October. You can not compare trips but cause they will be so different.

Thanks for sharing pictures and trip report I enjoy reading all trip reports where ever they may be.
