I am not an Apple convert, but my wife and daughter are. Our daughter has an iPhone4 and has had it since early July. She has reported none of the problems to me that other have experienced and believe me if she had them, I would hear about them. She took it with her to STJ the third week in July and apparently had no problems as I heard no complaints. It seems strange to me that others are having so many problems while some don't.

Basur: I asked him and he went to settings -> reset -> network

Let me know if that works for you. It worked fantastically for me. I could not even make calls from my house, the porch, or even in my town.

I think the "phone wars" in the smart phone world, Apple vs Android (Google), etc. are pretty real. I am not usually a conspiracy theorist - but you can bet there are many corporations (Nokia, Microsoft, Google, Verizon, etc.) who at this point delight in bad news for Apple, and I would not be surprised if they have helped to spread it in anyway they can. We're talking about billions of dollars here - and 1 phone from 1 company came from nowhere to front of the market in a few years.

Even Google's Android OS smoked Windows mobile - I have no idea what they do up there in Redmond but Microsoft has really dropped the ball here again - they had a huge lead in this space and now they are nearly invisible.

Anyway I can see how different people like, love or hate the iPhone and all these "i" products, and the press doesn't help with the incessant coverage, and all the stupid stories of "fanboys" (do I hate that phrase), etc. - but - besides the fact that the AT&T network is not as good as Verizon's (which seems universally accepted) the phone itself is just an amazing piece of technology. I finally said yesterday - okay - I am going to get mine - and they are gone! Vodafone said there are absolutely none in Italy at the moment, and they wouldn't even give me a date when they could expect more. I also have noticed in the local (Italian) media that the antennae story is virtually a non-story. Same thing in Japan - my friend was nearly unaware of it and just crazy about the phone...

Several friends of mine have one and no one is complaining, except that they hate AT&T. The antenna thing is a non-issue. The screen and apps etc. are amazing. If I ever join everyone else in the 21st century and get a cell phone, it would be my choice.

I agree. I love the screen, camera, video camera, apps, etc, etc...... I just am having reception issues that I did not have with my 3G.

XOXO - I reset the netwotk. Crossing my fingers.....

I played around with two coworkers 4s this week and will get one soon - still waiting for the white. Neither of them had any reception issues and the wireless antenna was much better in their 4s than in my 3G. They'd pick up wireless everywhere (we are in Vancouver so have our data packages O-F-F!) me and my little 3g were struggling to pick up anything. Probably not really an issue around the DC area but when traveling it could be.

I've changed my mind and now I think I want one. I hadn't actually held one yet, but I did the other day. Plus two friends have since told me how much they love it....

I have a couple of friends that have them and have reported no problems at all. And I ask all the time.

iPad is ahead of new iPhone.

So it's tax-free weekend here in MA and I decided to order the iPhone 4 online (rather than brave the mall) after seeing this:

haha

Do a search in the NY Times tech section this week - some very relevant articles and tips.

I got my iphone 4 recently & love it....absolutely no problems whatsoever. (Not an Apple fan necessarily but this phone is really good.)

I ordered mine online; it said should receive in 7-14 days. I had it in my hands in 4 days & that included the weekend. I'd definately recommend ordering online. They are still waiting just to be helped up to an hour+ in some mall stores here. Not me!

Really ?? I've gone into Apple Stores here the "day of" releases and have always been amazed that I never have to wait, no matter how crowded the store is.

I ordered my phone online last weekend and it still says it won't ship till September 7....but I think MA ran out of their quota because of tax free weekend !

BTW I did break down and get one - first iPhone I ever had, sort of hard to justify since I really don't use the phone much - but I do love it. I never even had a smart phone before, so getting my email, using the web, the camera, the video camera - it's all too much fun for me. I love having photo albums on there too, and my music, etc. Frankly I think the thing is amazing - especially the display.

This is sort of off topic, but as a big Apple fan, I just can't help myself.

My iPad was acting a little odd the other day, and didn't seem to be charging. So, as I'm in California, (BTW - VT is one of 8 states that does not have an Apple Store) the state that boasts probably the most Apple Stores per population, I made an appointment at the Genius Bar, and stopped by to see what they knew about my little problem. The guy did a quick diagnostic, and after about ten minutes said, "well, we could look into this a bit more, or, if it suits you, we'll just give you a new iPad." Say what? I was blown away. No questions asked. No "did you drop this in the tub?" or "did you use this as a frisbee?" or what have you. Nope... just "here take a new iPad from us." Now, that's customer service.

Love, love, love Apple. And, I love my iPhone 4 too! Best part of my iPhone 4 is that I can FaceTime my soon-to-be 80 year old father who lives 3,000 miles away from me. That alone, is worth the price of the device.

Lovermont - currently loving my home state of CA!

I brought my three year old macbook in recently...the battery was dying and they said, needs new battery. After it was installed, I handed the guy my credit card, and he said, "No we're not going to charge you. Should have lasted longer than that."
