Vichuga,
There are so many great restaurants on St. John to choose from.
What is most important to you on your birthday?
The view and the ambiance or the food?
Casual and friendly service or formal?
Cruz Bay or Coral Bay?
Seafood or steak?
Local food or "anything goes"?
Tell us more and we'll find the perfect spot for the big day!

For me Cruz Bay would be Zozos, Coral Bay our favorite was Sweet Plantains!

We got married on STJ in May and after a similar post decided on Zozo's, requesting seating at sunset "on the rail." We were very happy with the view, the service and the food. The Calamari appetizer was almost a meal for two and was excellent. The wine list is extensive. I went against my self imposed moratorium on eating steak at a restaurant after reading the description of the Rib-Eye with a mushroom sauce. I regularly get my Delmonico's from a butcher, cut extra thick and right around a pound. Not only was Zozo's steak fantastic (the sauce was phenomenal)but it was so large I took almost half home. Made a great breakfast at the villa!
The wife is asleep and I can't remember what she had, but I remember her raving about it as well.

I'm with Liamsaunt...La Tapa and Zozo's hands down! If you do not go at sunset I'd recommend La Tapa. Or even better, go to Zozo's for a drink at sunset and then head to La Tapa for dinner. Have fun!

I have eaten 3 times at La Tapa and all 3 tmes were not good - so 3 strikes for me and you are out
My choice would be for Coral Bay, Sweet Plantains if you are a fan of curry type dishes and in Cruz Bay ZoZos or Waterfront Bistro

We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Zozo's right at the open air bar. Check it out!

Well, strike out The Balcony. Here is a story that just came up on On-St.John.com:
The Balcony, down for the count?
January 25th, 2010
We’d much rather write about restaurants opening and let everybody else tell you about restaurants that have closed. But losing The Balcony would really stink.
It looks like we have.
Neighboring Waterfront Bistro – nice place, completely different owners – is using its noggin…posting a sign at The Balcony inviting you to come dine with them instead.
Wow, a hard time in January??

Great suggestions!!! Thank you so much!
It was nice to see sunset at Zozo’s from Youtube video….
We will definitely try most of the suggested places, since we are planning to eat most of the dinners out – this is part of the vacation for us. For the B Day, I was hoping to have more formal dinner, very good food - steak or seafood, super good desert. We are flexible with the place, it could be Cruz Bay or Corral Bay. Thanks again everyone!

Vichuga wrote:Thanks!!! Have anyone dined for special ocasion at Caneel? Was it worth it?
I can't speak for the regular dining at Caneel, but my 1st pick for a special occasion meal would be the Monday Night Buffet at Caneel. It is lavish, delicious, set to the sounds of live steel drum music, and it is so waterfront that your toes are practically in the sand.
My cousin also did the private dinner in the Sugar Mill ruins at Caneel and said it was wonderful. I am not 100% sure what the cost is, but I think they charge about $100 for the set-up and privacy and then you order from the regular menu and pay for your dinner.
I'll second Rhumb Lines and La Tapa too. Two of my favorites for a nice night out.
