Yes, the newer generation iPod Touch has a microphone, so you can use it as a handset for VIOL such as Skype. My husband and I have experimented with me on my iPhone and he on his iPod Touch, both of us logged onto Skype, so essentially talking across the internet.

More often than not, when I'm Skyping, I'm dialing a telephone number using Skype Out. It's much more handy than being connected to my computer with a headset plugged in. And at a couple cents a minute to call Europe, it's an amazing deal.

We used the Skype out extensively when the older step daughter was in Asia for a semester. it works great and is very cheap.

I picked up two different colored skins on Maonday. Its a slick peice of equipment but Im having some isues with the battery life. Any tips on how to preserve it. I need the network acess most mornings in Court to get email when Im out of my office, but after that just need the phone and text capabilities.

agree the battery life isn't fantastic. I usually only have issues tho when doing a lot with photos, uploading to facebook etc.
