Well don't flame me but I would go to those places as they offer great food for a reasonable price All you can eat shrimp is a heck of a deal at Red Lobster especially if you can put the food away the way I can.

Lot's of great ideas here.
Rhumblines is hard to beat for atmosphere and good food without breaking the bank.
Uncle Joes or Candies is great for a cheap meal if ya just don't feel like cooking. Can't get a good meal for any cheaper than these two back on the mainland. Take it back to the villa or eat it there and watch the happenings of St John go on as you eat can be very entertaining, lots of characters on St John.
I know we are going to try Sogos our next trip sounds like our type of place.

Of all the restaurants I tried on Island last trip (Feb), Fish Trap gets my #1 rating. The service was good, the portion of food was decent for the price paid and it was delicious.

Joe's BBQ was good too for a cheap dinner. Love the coleslaw.

I'm looking forward to trying the restaurant recommendations everyone has listed here especially Sogos and Shela's Pot.[/code]

Pia, You just made my day. She has lobster some days ? Woo-hoo! I posted during our last trip how much we loved Shela's Pot the one time we stopped. Since we are staying at Grande Bay next time, it will be really easy to pick something up to reheat for dinner. Even though we got the end of the days leftovers, it was fabulous and a very good price. Plenty to share. We had pork chops, meatloaf and rice, all were very flavorful.

Edit - Husband just came into the dining room and wanted to know why me typing sounded "excited" He said "we're there."

I would rather eat bread and water all week than eat at a chain restaurant. I never eat at them at home and certainly would never on vacation. Microwaved food is something you buy in a box in teh freezer section for $3. Not something you pay $15 for at a restaurant. OK, off my chain restaurant soapbox

Skinny Legs
Zozo's

After that, I am flexible but I never miss these spots

For me the best of the best are

High end: zozos
BBQ/cheap: uncle joe's or a skinny's burger
Different: Sweet Plantains
Breakfast: JJ's
Roadside: Tourist Trap
Cookie: That coconut chocolate thing at Deli Grotto

After having a few hit or misses at Lime Inn we went there on a whim and had a great meal. Their iced tea was fantastic. Infused with mint. Very refreshing and we had the best waitress.

I probably wouldn't go back to Asolare. Too much $$ for what you get in my opinion. It tries too hard and I don't like the "fusion" thing.

Another vote for Lime Inn and The Fish Trap. Had great meals there and decent prices. Skinny's is a must for us. Looking forward to trying some new ones in a couple weeks!

Xislandgirl Bread and water really ya can't think they are that bad can you Frozen foods have come a long way but come on. Lets throw Olive Garden out there for about 8 bucks I can get all the breadsticks, salad and soup and an huge order of Speghetti Pamadora that I think was way better than my twenty seven dollar meal at Cafe Roma. But hey everyone is entitled to there opinion off my soupbox now cause we are getting off topic

I really do think and know that they are that bad. Your Spaghetti at OG is frozen and just warmed up for you. I could go on and on about chain restaurants and their "cooking" and the lack of nutrional value, but I will leave that for another day on the OT forum.

Not a fancy place, but by far our favorite. Deli Grotto!

We loved the Tourist Trap, Vies, and Hercules. Looking forward to Sheila's Pot this trip, and hoping she has lobster! We're also going to look for that fish fry place, and we're going to try Joe's.

our two favorite's on the island:
The Tourist Trap (we were there almost every day for a Drink Right Keep Left)
Miss Vie's (the garlic chicken is incredible)

Here are my favorites.

Dinner:

Upscale: La Tapa, Zozos
Mid-point: La Plancha del Mar, Sweet Plantains
Less expensive: Lime Inn

Lunch:

Shipwreck Landing, Deli Grotto (especially their prepared salads), Miss Lucys.

Breakfast:

Baked in the Sun, Caneel's breakfast buffet
