SJ - Yes! That was actually Howard Dean...You know, the guy is supposed to speak for the Democrats as the head of the DNC. Here's his entire quote about the trial lawyers:
“This is the answer from a doctor and a politician,” said Dean. “Here is why tort reform is not in the bill. When you go to pass a really enormous bill like that the more stuff you put in, the more enemies you make, right? And the reason why tort reform is not in the bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers in addition to everybody else they were taking on, and that is the plain and simple truth. Now, that’s the truth.”
Funny, when did this administration get gunshy (oh the irony of that term when talking about the dems!) about taking people on?
Lets see:
Last week, Harry Reid told the longest runnning newspaper in Las Vegas that he "Hopes they fail".
Obama took on the cops. Had that professor been white, I have a feeling O's response would've been different.
Obama took on the postal service...Saying that UPS and FedEx do fine...Its's the Post Office that always having trouble (case in point for why we say "no" to healthcare).
Obama took on Special Olympians. Classy.
Obama took on the Travel and Recreation industry, specifically and most damaging, Las Vegas. Remember in the beginning of his term (which seems like decades ago) when he condemned companies who fly their people to places like Vegas and Arizona...Vegas is struggling now because companies are cancelling their trips.
Obama took on the insurance companies, and has villified them.
Obama took on physicians, saying in essence that docs would rather do the more costly procedure (like pulling tonsils), rather than say, treating allergies.
Obama is currently taking on the CIA. You know, those people who allow you and I to put our babies to bed at night without the fear of a mushroom cloud waking them in the morning...Take on the Bush Admin...Fine...I get it...You must appease your lefty kook base...But to take on the rank and file members of the CIA? To take on the lawyers who gave Bush and Cheney clearance to prosecute the war as they did?
This is a trues story...My expenses at work just got audited. Nothing really out of the ordinary...However there were questions raised about certain healthcare associations that we provided education for...I had to submit documentation, attendee lists, etc...All turned out fine, as I simply don't screw around with this sort of thing...However, the events they were asking questions about were perfectly legal (my industry is highly scrutinized, regulated)...I told my boss that if he wanted somebody to do these events in the future, he would have to find someone else to put them on the corporate AMEX. Not gonna do it anymore -perfectly within regs, but not worth the headache.
If you think similar thoughts are not going through the heads of CIA agents today (on a much higher scale, obviously), well, I have some property in Siberia I'd love to sell ya.
SJ - I too have longed for the days of Hillary Clinton. I would take her in a fetus heartbeat (which is VERY FAST, you know!) over this fella.
Go Sox - see you in October.
