I'm not questioning your recall, CG, BUT....
I am willing to bet ( whatever you specify--my first -born child, a life-time supply of painkillers, a week at your favorite lodging in high season....), that this photo is the east end of Jost. Maybe someone borrowed your camera? Maybe someone slipped a mickey in your Soggy Dollar painkiller-- and shanghaied you off on their mega-yacht to the north shore of Tortola for immoral purposes ,of which you have no memory because it was too, too shocking--surely there a missing couple of hours on that last trip?

Many missing hours, Hugo! LOL! But really, I downloaded my pictures onto my laptop every evening into dated folders for that day so I could keep track of it all. This photo is in my Monday folder... that means STJ to Norman Island and spending the night in The Bight. Like I said, I'll post a better picture tonight... in fact, maybe a couple of pictures. And I promise to eat my words if it's Jost. :)

Stick to your guns CG - that's not Jost....

It doesn’t look like CGs photo if you fly in from that point that juts out near the center of Steve’s image, but here is the Google Earth Pro image of STJ east end looking with that pond that is on the far left center in the Steve S overhead image just to the right of center in this image.

OK now it could be this too (!) The other Google image is now looking too big and wide to be JVD (at least for the time being!)

I suspect CGs photo may be compressing multiple peaks of Tortola behind it in the distance which is making it hard to ID. You can see that if you lift up a bit in Google Earth from the same point. I may off a few degrees left or right.

I've been looking at the picture many times. To me it looks like coming out the harbor in Coral Bay. Is that where you were? Or were you on the outside in Sir Francis Drake Channel when you took the picture?

Sticking my neck out here... will probably have to join my husband and Shakespeare on the deserted island, (that would be OK!), but here goes my latest take on this...

Thanks to Steve S and jmq!

lprof - indeed those Goog Earth Pro images are taken from that aspect or spot right around where you put the "CG" Her photo mightve been taken from further away.

jmq, could you move out and north on that JVD image, so that Little JVD is in front of the main hills on the right? Or post a more sea level view that doesn't get too distorted? The buildings on the left are unmistakable.
Apart from all the other features that don't exist on St. John's EE, CG"s photo shows hills that are at least 900 ft. tall, not mid-sizers like Nancy and Blackrock, which are about half that. Little Jost , in the foreground, is a few 100 ft. too....

I think lprof has nailed my location pretty good. More pictures to come :)

CG, A few weeks ago you posted a photo in a post titled "Taken from a Different Angle", and I just went back and looked at that---THAT is East End , St. John, from out by Norman island, with the Privateer Bay subdivision front and center, including all all those roads, and the new roads on Privateer Point. I can tell you exactly what every land form is named, and who owns the few buildings you can see, when they were built, etc. I will bump it up right now.

I STAND CORRECTED! I WAS WRONG! :D

Never argue with a local - LOL! Hugo is right!

As it turns out, this picture was taken by Rick on Thursday, which is the day we hit JVD. He even just confirmed it to me that it's Jost! (I thought it was my picture! Too many pictures, too much editing!)

My bad! Now, NAME THAT BEACH!

Yup! You see, this is why I ask for help ID-ing my pictures. We were short on time and long on rum! The rum tends to cloud my memory a little!

Oh yeah, and I have to give jmq his props too for ID-ing it as Jost.

Steve, you and I suck!

I really didn't want to be right if it meant that hugo was wrong... he knows his island!

I learned a lot about the geography of the East End, so... a good turn of events! 8)
