even though I'm there a few times a year I still like to hear what locals suggest so I'd be interested!

big fan of newburyport. tell them to stroll around downtown, go to agave for lunch or dinner, get a coffe at cafe disienna then take a stroll down the boardwalk along the riverside. if they want to walk the beach, take water street to plum island (5 minute drive). the place will be deserted that time of year and it's beautiful!

i spent most of my misspent youth in nbpt. very small, quaint, walkable historic tiny city. very fun!

portsmouth is a bigger nbpt and without plum island. portsmouth has a very active arts community and seeing a movie or show at the portsmouth music theatre, a refurnished theatre, is very cool. portsmout also has tons of eating places anywhere from pubs to 'spensive restaraunts and great shopping, also from affordable to not so much affordable.

I recently did the boat tour to the isle of shoals from portsmout harbor and it was a very cool three hour tour.

i can also reccomend either salisbury or hampton beach for goofy tacky beach experiences- beach pizza, games arcades etc. on a warm fall day in new england, there are only locals at the beach cuz that's the only time we can go and not have to sit in traffic!

Have to agree with all the posters on Ogunquit and walk the Marginal Way it is a great place to go!

The ultimate Salisbury wacky experience.

1. Arrive at Salisbury and immediately hit Christy's for a slice of pizza, or two, three if you're hungry.

2. Booze it up and bang out some Karaoke at Uncle Eddy's.

3. Leave Uncle Eddy's around midnight and go grab some spinach pie (even if you don't like spinach)it is good. See what the many can do for you.

4. Make sure you have a designated driver

The Gloucester Schooner Festival 9/4 -- 9/7 in Mass. is just one of the many harbor festivals that take place throughout NE all fall - You can go on a few of the beautiful old schooners that offer deck seats for the race - the food and parties are great - I stay at the Vista Motel which has a view of the harbor and a beach access.
Provincetown Mass at the very end of Cape Cod is another place worth a visit - amazing sand dunes, art colony town, great food, a wide array of lodging choices in a walking town.

Now they may be doing an alaskan cruise.........lol
They will eventually do the Maine New England tour sooooo thanks

I can't help them there...I don't know crap about Alaska. Except they just got rid of their goofy Governor.
