I LOVE their curry chicken too. Ned actually started making a curried turkey salad at home in honor of that recipe. I'll ask him where he got it. It is very good. He'll smoke a turkey breast and make curried turkey out of the leftovers. He is turning into quite the cook.

What we do is a split between Gromit's take (hitting Skinny's) and making our own.

In Feb, in addition to steak for the grill, we brought down a good amount of deli meat as well and had sandwiches on the beach with the bread and veggies that we picked up from Starfish.

I love having a Mahi sandwich and Presidente for lunch but some days, you simply don't want to leave the beach.

What we do is have some folk on sandwich duty, some folk on breakfast duty. It takes no time at all in the morning (or the night before) to whip up a bunch of sandwiches - especially when you have the assembly line going (one person creates, the other wraps and packs). We throw the russian, mustard, dressing, etc. in the cooler so everyone is free to doctor their own sandwich accordingly. Less soggy as well.

PB&J made in the villa morning of is generally our lunchtime fare...Hits the spot on the beach!

We love Deli Grotto too...Great place for a breakfast sandwich also!

We liked to get the fresh bread from Lily's add some cheese and meat that made a perfect lunch for the beach. We also got some fresh vegetables and lettuce from Josaphines.

Gromit wrote:DJMom-- I hear you on this one. We used to do the same thing but now we are Coral Bay people when it comes to renting villas.

Here's what we do:

We eat REALLY hearty breakfast. Something involving eggs and bread and some sort of bacon related product.

Then we pack some heavy duty snacks: Pringles, fig newtons, pretzels, granola bars, water etc.

Then we head to the beach early in the AM and stay until we either get too hot or too pruny.

At this point it's usually around 2pm (after the lunch rush). We pack up our stuff put some clothes on and we head to either Skinny Legs, Island Blues, Vies or the Tourist Trap for a late-ish lunch.

After a relaxing lunch we just head back to the villa for afternoon pool time and then we shower and get cleaned up for dinner.

SO I guess this is a round about way of saying that we find our routine doesn't require bringing lunch with us anymore and usually includes an excuse to hit one of our favorite haunts.

Besides, if you brought a sandwich the mongoosedem would just get it anyway!!

Just another approach 8)

That is what we do too!!!! And, reading that just made me relive several perfect St. John days. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

Pia - I thought the guy at Lilly's said they bake their bread. It tasted pretty good with the hummus, but it wasn't whole grain which we prefer. Maybe the "they" that bake it is actually a bakery elsewhere. Sorry for any confusion.

No problem :)

I know they stock fresh baked bread maybe that's what he meant :)
