It will count as a carry on. Only thing the airlines will allow you to bring along with the box o liquor is a personal item, not a regular carry on bag. Happened on our flight. Folks were forced to decide what to gate check...either the box or their normal carry on bag.

Cruzan .750L = $14.00 - $20.00 here in NJ.
That;s exactly what I was gonna say! On a good sale day I'll pay 14.99 for Cruzan here in NJ...most times its 16.99 and up. I think we paid some silly amount like 5.97 in STT and will continue to buy a case before we leave!

What do you guys mix/make with the Cruzan Black Strap?
I have never tried it. Is it similar to Pusser's (Painkillers)?
Either way I'll be bringing home an assortment of Cruzan soon!

Thanks for the tip

Dark and Stormy:
Black Strap Rum, Ginger Beer, and lime served on the rocks.
The "official" rum of the Dark and Stormy is Gosling's Black Seal Rum, but any Black Strap will work well.

I probably have a little sour grapes about this subject since the 1 bottle out of the 6 that I actually wanted (Cruzan Dark) was broken in the box when we got back.... I'm of the opinion that it just isn't worth it.
Note to the Makers Mark.... it was only about 3 or 4 dollars cheaper... not really worth the trouble.
If you really want to make out like a bandit, bring back cartons of cigarettes! There were several places I saw them at about $25 a carton (heard rumors of $12 a carton on the BVIs).... those suckers are $50 up here.... bring back your limit, sell them to friends who smoke for $40, buy all the booze you want! I believe the limit is 5 cartons a person.... and they are lightweight and can be packed into your bag easily.

I'm Still wondering if I broke some sort of law. Julie and I bought a bottle of Barrillito Rum in the STT airport duty free. I stuck it in the under seat carry on. For beverage service we ordered Cokes and waited till the flight attendant was a few aisles away. busted open the bottle and made several very strong Rum n Cokes to ease the pain of re-entry. Kept it all "on the down low" just in case it was against the rules, but it worked out fine!

It was great to meet you Pia.....who knows, you may be seeing a lot more of us in the future......Julie was very happy you ordered the suit, by the way! Trip report is on the way. I love to write, so pardon me if it comes off as a mini-novel of sorts. I'm also hoping to add pics from every day. Do I have permission to use your image from Maho?

Are the liquor prices the same in St. Thomas as they are in St. John?

we had to check our rum when we were coming back thru Tortola and out of the three bottles the one that broke in San Juan was the Pussers. If we didn't have to run to catch our connector i think i would have stopped for a coke and wrung the box to least enjoy some of it

We bought 6 bottles at the airport and checked them last year at about this time. Two of the six bottle arrived BROKEN.

Am Air did not act too concerned.

Since they tore up our dive bag also, he was a little generous with the repayment on that.
You would think the store in the airport would be the most careful about packing the glass.

Black strap makes good painkillers, but they are kind of a brownish-grey color from the juices being mixed with such a dark rum. Tasty if you can get past the color.
Here I can get light and dark Cruzan for $10/bottle if it's on sale, but it's $4.99 everywhere on St. John. The flavors are about $6 bucks there and about $15 here. And black strap I think is $9 there and $19 here. So, I definitely save a lot of money because I drink a lot of Cruzan.

When are they going to smarten up & bottle in plastic...lighter weight & no breakage & & they are easily recycled!!
One of our NAVY Bk Strap, broke over hubby's warm coat for NH...too wet & to wear, oh well!!!! S___t happens!
As we all know, all those little things are what make the stories we tell.
