Most of my music is on my iPod. All I have with me today is my iPhone, which is probably a good thing. It has significantly less random, weird stuff.

1) Love is Colder Than Death - The Virgins
2) Starry Eyed Surprise - Oakenfold
3) The World Should Revolve Around Me - Little Jackie
4) Sweet Sweet Heartkiller - Say Hi to Your Mom
5) Let it Rain - Ok Go

I already see a bunch of songs I like! Yay.

Anthony, I have tried the genius thing, and I like it, but I end up buying way too many songs when I use it. I think the last time I used it I bought 57 songs. This way I can just cherrypick a few here and there.

New day new shuffle:

Pogues: Summer in Siam

Simple Minds: Belfast Child

Jackie Davis: Glow Worm Cha Cha Cha :o (OK...I have NO IDEA why this song is on there. Sometimes John puts stuff on my ipod as a joke, and that's the only explanation I can come up with for this one!)

Tori Amos: Leather

Jimmy Buffett: A Pirate Looks at 40

I'm sorry. I'm going to break rules. This is a list of music I've been particularly taken by lately and that my shuffle feature would provide me with if it truly understood me. I'm also probably going to be unsuccessful in keeping it it to 5 songs. A lot of the artists are relatively new to me. I apologize in advance.

Dublin Boys----Antje Duvekot
Illuminated Red---The Accidental
Cage the Songbird---The Low Anthem
Blood Red Sentimental Blues---Cotton Jones
Standing at the Threshold---Deer Tick
River's Edge---Great Lake Swimmers
Officer of Hearts---Handsome Furs
True Love Will Find You...----Headless Heroes
Cocody Rock---Alpha Blondy
Old Man Chicago----Alberta Cross
Noon As Dark As Midnight----Lucero
Fake Empire---The National
Soukora---Ali Farka Toure

There. 13.

Jeez - Lex and V, I never heard of most that stuff. I must be getting old or need to listen to some different stations on the sat radio. Here’s another round from me. I tend towards deeper cuts from known and semi-known bands.

Talk About The Passion – R.E.M. (from their first EP)
Crazy Life – Toad the Wet Sprocket
Baby Be Good – The Smithereens (local heros and buddies from my hometown whom I went to school with)
Disconnect/ Waiting for the Dawn – Hanneke Cassel
Vagabond Moon – Willie Nile
Bonus track: The Book I Read – Talking Heads

Quick story on the Talking Heads: Me and my more musically enlightened college roommates eagerly embraced the Heads and other early retro-pop/new wavers that emerged in the mid to late '70s (Blondie, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson. etc.) and harder punk stuff like The Ramones, Dictators, Television, Tuff Darts etc. as welcome refuge from the god-awful disco and post-Yellow Brick Road Elton John music that dominated the charts at that time.
We enjoyed going into the city to see many of these acts at CBGBs. Plus, we were lucky to see the Heads perform all of the tunes from their first album when they played a large room with about 150 folding chairs set up in the Rutgers student center in fall of '77 (admission was $1.50).
You just knew that you just saw something special that you hoped would continue to grow, flourish, and be appreciated by a wider audience, which is what happened. I can still picture David Byrne singing all of the songs while perched on his tippy toes and apologizing that the enthusiastic call for more encores couldn't be met because they "didn't know any more songs". Memorable stuff.
