We'll be there in June and I was REALLY looking forward to the BB and the tuna...we usually go to High Tide and for whatever reason have not been to the BB. I'm a fan of High Tide...the location is great and we've always a terrific, friendly service...I'm SURE they'd be THRILLED if ya'll gave them a heads up and told them you would have a big group gathering in June....

We'll still go to the Beach Bar, that one incident doesn't change that it's still a fun place to hang out and the staff is friendly for the most part. I just know not to order food on Sunday nights when they are slammed and definitely not order the tuna any more which was our favorite thing to order there. Just take it as a bar on the beach and all will be good.

This is funny! A few years back, I said the same thing about the beach bar. Nice location but food was avg at best and sometimes we got an attitude from the staff. I got slammed on the boards for bashing the BB.

I have been going to st john for 16 years, at least once a year. We will be at the gathering(party of 11, 7 newbies)on june 21st.

I love the location, but other then that, it is dirty, run down and the owner hasn't put a nickel into it since i have been going. ok, he bought new bar stools a few years back.

I will still go there for an occasional drink and of course look forward to meeting everyone at the 6/21 gathering.

Please don't bash me for voicing my opinion. Everyone is entitled to thiers. I know there are a lot of lovers of the BB on this board. Again, this is just my opinion!!

Kindest regards,

Dave C

In a way I shouldn’t participate in this discussion, because we have only been on STJ once and are not planning a visit in the near future. But I can tell now that when we were on STJ, we both visited the Beach Bar and High Tide, and I have always been wondering, why people prefer BB for HT. We thought that HT was much nicer (but I have to admit that I had my first fantastic painkiller there, so it could be the reason :D ).

I have to admit, I have always been underwhelmed by the food at The BB. It is good, not great. We have actually always had decent service there except on Sundays when it is really crowded. It can be a pain to get a drink then. I love The BB for what it is. A great place to hang out with friends on the beach. We will be there on the 17th  . Rhumblines will likely be our dinner stop that night :D .

We have gone to the BB for a drink in the sand on a beach...not for food. We've never met up with forum folks. Not that we're anti-social, just that we are busy with folks that are not forum folks and wouldn't understand. In our life the BB is a tradition for one night of drinks on the beach. We never expect anything more and enjoy the environment for what it gives us. We do joke that it sort of reminds us of a bar we frequented in college.

You guys that know me know that I tell it like it is. We have never encountered bad or slow service at the BB; even as crowded as it was last January for the big CD release. I don't eat the tuna but Mike has, and he's liked it..

Last trip we did the bar hopping all evening with appetizers and drinks for dinner. The steak sub at BB was FANTASTIC. But it wasn't a crowded evening either, and the staff was wonderful.

One good thing about the BB is you can bring your own cooler and drinks; noticed a lot of folks last January had brought their own appetizers. Huge groups of families were sitting on the beach in their own chairs.

High Tide is good, have enjoyed it.........but Sunday Jazz Jam is alot of fun. I LOVE the music, setting, and the laid back atmosphere of the BB. My 2 cents :D
