I don't know why he didn't leave (this happened at least twice where it was really bad).
I think it is one of those things where you know you are screwed cause if you go somewhere else the waiting starts all over...
Then also, I think there was a point where he was like "they are going to serve me, even if they don't want to"!
Which is a really strange way for a customer to think, I know....I think it became a challenge. How friendly can you be to someone who is treating you like dirt...kind of thing. "I'm going to makethem look at me!
Still makes no sense to spend $ there if it is like that!
Thats why we were REALLY happy when Candies opened!
Did anyone "get" my ribs joke on St. John gifts?

Ha! I remember our guys thinking the same way.
Plus, if they left after investing all that time, they would have had to get something else for dinner and that likely required more energy than standing around drinking beer.

I am really shocked that people have been treated poorly at uncle joe's. While the service isn't exactly effusive we have never had anything anywhere similar to that happen to us and we get food there at least 2x per trip.
That said, we always plan for the wait. Typically we put in the order, go do something else and come back to pick it up. I have always thought it was just the timing of the cooking. It seems to be they just put a huge batch on and when its ready they fill orders.
We tried Candie's as well and had to wait quite awhile too. Competition definitely is a good thing though. We'll see how it goes in June. Its our arrival night go to dinner.

I can only speak for Candi's, which we found delicious w/ a reasonable amount of time from order to finish. Parking is a plus!
Quite honestly I was never attracted to going to Uncle Joe's from all of the reports of long wait times...my vacation time is far more valuable than to spend it waiting for food.

We've never had UJoe's. We tried this past trip and we tried to greet appropriately and ask what our options for ordering were and they didn't look up and just said, ribs and when I asked about sides, they didn't answer. I was disappointed.
We went to Candi's for our second time. Their rice and beans along with pasta salad are great. It's not our favorite bbq, but it's good and hits the spot back at the villa. We've always had great service. We got rum punch while we waited this time and it was the best drink I had the entire trip. We didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes either time.

I agree. Uncle Joe's was on my list and is being crossed off. We'll try Candi's.
Where in the world could they get the notion that you can be rude AND slow and keep your business? What kind of business model IS that? Unbelievable. And you have to be all nicey nice to get that rude service?
Uh uh.

This is another topic that I just don't understand. We always go to UJ's at least twice and have never had to wait longer than 30 minutes. Maybe it is just a timing thing. We also travel in the off-season. That may have nothing to do with it, but you never know.
I do know that I would not have to wait over an hour more than once. I would grill my own before I would wait that long again.
We do want to try Candi's next trip to compare with UJ's.

I have never eaten at Candies. We ate at joes last month and it was so good that we went back a second time. We had no problem with the service. They gave us an estimate and were right on each time. We did go do some shopping while we waited and once my wife talked to joe and got some tips on how to BBQ.

I've had both and prefer UJ's. Honey always goes and gets it while we're relaxing at the villa so I can't comment on the tude but dealing with a 2 hour wait plus attitude, I would have left as well. That would definitely be a downer for me.
Of course I have met sooo many sweet, kind and pleasant people on STJ, but I personally in my experience have found that on the whole, attitudes in the BVI's are much more agreeable and welcoming. I wonder why...
