One thing to consider about Arizona and New Mexico is how close you are to the Mexican border. I researched retiring to both places and there are some VERY HIGH crime rates (mostly stolen cars) due to the proximity of the border. Something to consider.

I'd probably be stay in the country, just because of the conveniences and family.
Sanibel would be nice. I wouldn't buy, I'd rent something for 6 mos (winter) and then come back up here for another 6 mos.
I moved once, I'll never move again.

I'd love to retire to Austin...especially right on Lake Travis, but that requires major bucks. I think hubby will be working until he's 75+, so we'll probably retire to Forest Lawn.
