Sorry Cypress gotta disagree with ya on this one. Carrie is drop dead sexy with an absolutely unbelievable voice right up there with Martina Mcbride. That Keith Urban dude is kinda sexy too though   and he can sing too. New country is still country it has just evolved like most genres of music. I like both the old and the new. The lyrics of alot of the new stuff is just downright moving if ya ask me,yea some is bubble gum but some will stir your soul.

OK Capt.....you are speaking through your pants. Carrie is NO WHERE NEAR Martina McBride. I remember when Vince Gill (another amazing country preformer) hosted the CMT awards and intoduced Martina by saying "God hit her up side the throat". What a perfect description for the best female voice in country music. If Carrie looked like an average girl, she sure wouldn't be entertainer of the year.

Side note......that guy that won best song or something like that, with the long beard, had a really great song. I've never heard of him (can't remember his name) but that song was great and he deserved the award, especially after listening to what's coming out of country music today. He's nothing to look at, but seems to be a real talent. Guys can get away with being average looking.

Nope I'm not cause I think Martina is a major Hottie too  Yes she has an awesome voice but so does Carrie they both hit those notes that make ya just go WOW :D Remember in Idol when she sang a Martina song and nailed it. I remember saying to my wife before she sang it that she wouldn't do her justice but she did. I know she didn't get were she is in a conventional way but she deserves what she got with that voice imho I really think it is that good.
Are ya talking about Jamie Johnsons song Should of seen it in Color awesome song for sure. Yea your right I certainly married up in the looks department but I'm such a nice guy it makes up for it

That's the song....Should of seen it in color. Great song.

I've met you, with beer googles, but I thougt you were well above the average guy at the BB. Much better than Jamie Johnson. :D Can you sing???
Always a plus. Mine can't sing or dance, but I love him anyway.

I pegged Carrie Underwood on the Idol auditions. I called her right there and then. I knew she had a great voice, but more than that, she has a great name. It just sounds like a country star. Voice or no voice, she had to win with that name!

I have to weigh in on this one. I spent twenty years playing in rock bands. Mind you, this in no way makes me any more qualified than anyone else...but, Carrie Underwood is pretty amazing. I've only recently admitted to liking country in the past few years and I've been an idol fan since it started. I grew up with old country and my wife (a vocal major in college) likes newer female country artists. I've found all the really good lead guitar playing is happening in country.

I resisted Carrie Underwood at first. I was still unconvinced of the star power of an Idol contestant. Kelly Clarkson was good and all, but I thought it was a fluke. The rest of the winners kinda sucked. My wife was persistent and convinced me to give her a fair shot. I thought she was a bit commercialized, but her voice was very good. The icing on the cake for me was her consistency in her performances. She is dead on key 99% of the time I hear her live and her voice is always strong and confident. My wife and I decided she was a lot like Michelle Kwan...she hardly ever falls.

Time will tell if she has the staying power of someone like Martina, but she's on the right path to stick around for quite a while. I certainly wouldn't bet against her!

Oh yeah...did I mention she's smokin' hot?

Cid, I agree with you. She does look like she's going to have that staying power in country music.

You have to remember that she's only 24 too!

I have to give Carrie Underwood props as well. I am not by any stretch a huge country fan (I like some old stuff but really don't love anyone contemporary) but the duet she did with Randy Travis on AI a couple weeks ago was amazing.

She can really sing. I think the idols that go on to make it big time are those who have amazing voices, not just interesting personalities - Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Leona Lewis (on the Brit version). I also like that she seems to be a decent, humble person who is talented. In a world where so many of the popular singers can't sing and think they are all that she is very refreshing.

Check it out:

No one is denying that she' a good singer as well as being attractive, but is she top Entertainer...NO! Her fan base is more about the on-line voting than Kenny's. Point is, there's no country singer than can fill the stadiums like Kenny. Good looks definitely help in just about every vocation, but come on, Keith Urban is a far hotter looking guy than Kenny but that doesn't change the fact that Kenny is the guy that packs the stands. Ali~

I hate to have to say this, but I don't think KC is all that. I don't think he could carry Brad Paisley's "guitar" strap. My feeling is that when I'm 64, Jimmy Buffett (overrated too) will be dead and KC will be hosting "Parrot Head" shows. I don't think he's that talented. He's got by on his good looks and his island schtick far too long. As Randy Jackson would say, "Eh...just all right ,dog!". No doubt he has staying power. I just can't figure out why.

As far as Entertainer of the year goes, I've always hated this category. What exactly is the definition? Is it record sales? Concert ticket sales? It sounds like a big popularity contest...those things always have such good results. That's why I was happy to see the Idol judges get a veto this year. Sometimes America boots the wrong talented person over the better looking, less talented person. Just like real life....Hehehheeeeee!

I remember when Barbara Mandrell was entertainer of the year. I was 2 years old then. But I think she was an amazing entertainter, and to me a great entertainter gets the crowd into the show, kind of like watching a Broadway preformance. I think Celine Dion and, once upon a time, Whitney Houston could do that. Carrie is great for a song or two, but I wouldn't want to see a 90 min. show of just Carrie Underwood. But I'm obviously in the minority here. Music is such a personal choice. If I were the Music Queen, I'd take half that crap off the radio. (I'm not talking about country either.)

I have no opinion on Carrie Underwood other than that I think she is very pretty, and I don't have an opinion on Kenny Chesney either, but I have to say that to me, in that picture, he looks so much like Scott Hamilton! You know, the figure skater? Triple LUTZ!
