Marcia, you looked pretty darn good when I saw you in summer. You must already be a stick by now.

Now that would motivate me. And I am w/ you on the WILL NOT give ups!

We tried South-Beaching it once, and still use many of the recipes, but we like red wine and good cheese too much as well!

I'm always on the diet wagon. I guess it could be worse....if I didn't constantly work at it, I could be 90 lbs. over weight instead of 30. Actually, if I could loose 15-20 lbs. I'd be pretty happy. I've never been small, but age does make it harder to loose. I eat healthy 98% if the time, but my "can't give up" is my nightly wine. OK......I could have a glass or two instead of a bottle. But those bottles are just getting smaller and smaller, don't you think?
I am getting back into my tennis game, which is pretty sucky right now. I had an hour lesson yesterday with my partner (who is a personal trainer, BTW), but she didn't show up, so I did an hr. by myself. By the end of the hour I was hanging on the fence gasping for breath. For all you tennis players out there, you know how hard it is to stay on your toes and keep your legs moving and split step before you hit each ball. I think golf would be so much easier, but I just get too bored with it.
So my problem is I sabotage my diet when I eat 1200 calories, and then I drink 1000. Then I wonder why I didn't loose any weight. I guess I'm going to have to look further into Betty Ford.

This is going to be fun (I mean, for what it is...lets be real!)
Maybe we can help each other with some solutions.
Like I can't give up the wine either. But maybe I can wait an hour or two later to start....
I will see if I can figure out the facebook thing and get us a page.
Maybe we can formalize things later (if we want) but I will start with three suggestions for tomorrow. I have no desire to be the "leader" , but I'll start it out for a few days and see where we go.....add in your ideas. Lets start slow though or it will get too complicated.
1. Weigh in and write the number down on your calendar.
2. Do something, even if it is just a 20 minute walk.
3. Don't eat anything unhealthy that you don't LOVE. That means no crappy junk food. No leftovers off your kids plate. No chips in the break room.
If you are going to eat something fattening. Stop and ask yourself if you really
love it. Or are you eating because it is "there".
IF you do love it.... eat a small portion. SIT DOWN. Savor it. And no seconds!

Those are great tips, Susan.
I need to just get back on a regular fitness routine when I'm not with the trainer. I'm letting lunch time work errands interfere with my workout schedule. I was going everyday at lunch.
Tomorrow I have the trainer, and then I think I'm going to try yoga after work. I'm not sure yet. They have water aerobics at 6:30, and that might be more my speed. I am kind of afraid of yoga...
I really need to get back on the track, because even though I keep bemoaning my next trip being a year away, 8 Tuff Miles will be here before I know it!

For those of you who have an iphone, the "weightbot" app is a really wonderful weight-tracking application. I think it's my favorite app. Check it out.

Sorry, can't help - still working on the whole gluttony thing.
But, have you noticed that our slimmer forumites (theshopper3, nascarfan) tend to hang out at those fine white tables for Woody's happy hour? Does Woody's make you skinny?
We need another forum experiment, it's been a while since the polar bear cooler thing.
Cheers, RickG

liamsaunt- is there any way you could come up with one recipe a week that is super easy to make and super healthy? maybe post on a Friday and we could make over the weekend or something?
you would be so good at that.
by the way, the facebook page is almost ready!

count me in, i need motivation--have to lose 5-10--
i cannot give up wine--but it is my caloric downfall.....ugh.
exercise i guess.
but that means either getting to the gym at the crack of dawn (5:30--i am NOT a morning person) or after work (and my husband usually works late, so that is really not an option)
what to do.....what to do.......

May not be easy, but is simple. Skip processed foods, eat whole foods only. It's not a "diet" it's a way of life. Done.
p.s. oh yea, a little walk will help.

Thank you for the compliment Miss Maryanne. You didn't look like you needed to lose an ounce this summer, either!
Okay, we like the South Beach diet because a.) it works b.) it lasts c.) it's easy d.) it's healthy e.) once you get used to the "limitations" it simply becomes a life style change that's no big deal to live with f.) YOU CAN HAVE WINE! (after the first two weeks)
I swear I've done every diet out there in my life. This one, for me, has been the ultimate winner. As I mentioned, we started this in July and all of the weight is still off. Yes, there has been some "cheating" from time to time but that's normal. It's so easy to go back to the diet and fall into the routine.
The hardest part is the first two weeks. Once you get through that, you are golden.

Don't forget this little Lotta. (Remember that comic book as a kid?) Wine, are you kidding, do you know how many calories are packed in one Marguerita (my drink of choice). I'm usually good about New Year's resolutions. This year I went and purchased the bowflex treadclmber (it claims the weight can be loss in half the time) and don't you know one week later some weird citica problem occurs. Now, 7-8 weeks later and no exercise. Ugh! As to the weight chartering aspect of the group, I'm going to have to pass on that part. Some things really are better kept as a secret. I think it's referred to as Denial. I'll look for you on facebook. Ali~
