Thanks again guys.

My first friend posted a message to my wall that said "Welcome to Crackbook"

Maybe I'm missing something, but Facebook doesn't really blow my skirt up. I used to be addicted to Myspace before the 12 year olds took over, but Facebook I can take or leave.

Really, I think I'm just over social networking and being on information overload.

I resisted it for a long time. Now, I love it. I am in touch with people I had lost touch with since I live in a different state than where I grew up and went to college. I am amazed how Facebook makes it very easy to connect me with people I may know. And as others have mentioned earlier, you can ignore friend requests.

I've been on since October or so and it's been fantastic catching up with friends from back home, especially since we have our 5 year reunion coming up..

Some people literally put out there what they are doing 24/7, it's kind of funny.

Do yourself a favor and check all the settings and set them to your liking.

Did I say 5th reunion?

I meant 25th reunion, it was just a sip, I swear. :x

Yeah, it's my 25th this year too. I've found a lot of people I haven't seen in a long time. That's pretty cool.

I noticed that people who are just a bit younger than I am (late thirties) are more active in Facebook. When I searched for everyone from our High School. Of course the kids were all over it, but the age drop off was steep and significant. I thought it was a really interesting way to figure who is using social networking. I also noticed that the Facebook clicks are the same as they were in High School....funny.

I use it, but carefully. I'm a wedding photographer, and it's a good tool for sharing my work with my clients and their friends.

It's really important to modify the privacy settings if you're concerned about too much exposure on FB...I'm almost invisible, except when I don't want to be! :) For example, I send direct messages to people instead of writing on their Walls (again, except for when I want my messages to be public), and I modified my privacy settings so that all of my friends aren't spammed with notifications whenever I comment on a photo, post a status update, etc.

If someone uploads a photo of you and "tags" you in it, you can "untag" it if you don't like the photo. You can even create a sub-list of your friends and then exclude them from being able to see your photos, status updates, etc. (i.e. for business colleagues, etc.)

It's a bit confusing to get the hang of the privacy settings, but once you do, they're quite flexible.

Thank you lark22-appreciate the privacy info! That is good to know.

Just FYI- I am "on" and have been having some fun, have hooked up with about 20 old friends. I am trying to be very selective and not just clicking on everyone I know or even like.

I hope it starts taking up less time though. LOL. I have been missing out on the forum action!

For me Facebook has gotten me in touch with a lot of people I wish I had kept up with that I had neglected. I am glad to be in touch with them. The suggestion to be careful of your privacy settings is a very good one though.
