I remember seeing pics from someone TR the view looked awesome. Think we shall try this one when we head east next trip. We did not hike once last trip  This sounds doable with the gals, we can drop them off at Haulover and take a quik hike and be back in a couple hours.

There are lots of options on how/where to hike in and out. The hike that our group did wouldn't really be called a "brown bay hike". We parked at Annaberg ruins, walked in through Leinster Bay and then up the Johnny Horn Trail to the ruins at the top of the hill, then we went down the JHT to where it meets the Brown Bay Trail (as Pia mentioned) and continued down to Brown Bay...we also hiked most of the BBT past Brown Bay.

But, we came back out the way we came in (through Leinster to Annaberg Ruins parking lot). If I were to do it again I would add the hike then pinic at the top of the hill to a snorkel trip around Waterlemon Cay and skip the BBT....that's just me.
Here's a couple views from the top...

Here is a pic of Brown Bay. When we were there the best snorkeling was on the left. There was a steady, strong, outflowing current on the right, so watch out for that.

Thanks for all the great feedback!! We've done the Rams Head hike numerous times and the Reef Bay hike once so I think maybe we shall try something different this trip.

Would this hike be do-able for an 8 year old? (3rd grader) I know our older on is fine.

She does the Lind point trail all the time and Drunk bay just fine.

She is a little more cautious than our older girl.

Would she walk up the hill (on the road) from Cruz bay to Estate Lindholm - if so she would be fine as that is probably what the climb is like give or take (especially on the return trip) but it is single file and on rock/loose gravel. I have met a few children about her age on the trail so it is doable.

If you were going to hike to Brown Bay via the Johnny Horn Trail from Leinster/Waterlemon, it would be worth your while to continue a ways beyond the Brown Bay cutoff until you reach the other side of the ridge and the views of Coral Bay. There are some wonderful overlooks. We've hiked the Johnny Horn twice from Waterlemon to Coral Bay and back. Probably the hardest stretch is the uphill out of Coral Bay past the church. It's a good hike. Good variety, great views, few (if any) other people on the trail. But it's definitely a hike. You'd have to enjoy hiking or it could be just a hard, hot, miserable experience.

We wanted to go down to Brown Bay the last time we
were on the trail, but we went to Coral Bay first and didn't have the energy on the return leg.

Pia,
good test about walking that road.

she would do it and grumble to herself. it is hilarious to hear her. "this is the worst day of my ife, etc..." at least she doesnt whine to us. :)

then when she gets there whe would be SO happy.

thanks. good info!

You probably will have the beach to yourself and the snorkeling is very good (imo) but do know it's not a "pretty" beach (well it is to me :) ) but lots of seaweed, maybe some clothes and "junk" - boat parts, wood, bottles etc - and it varies on how much.

Thank you Pia!!!!

For me it will definitely be the shorter hike based on your response! I have just started exercising to get in shape for it! We will see! I'll definitely put notes on that in our trip report.

Don't forget if you see me on the trail (I'll have 2 really loud barking puppies - OK dogs now - but they don't bite :) ) to say hi :)
You'll see our white jeep or a red pick up truck - 99% of the time it's the pick up - but the license plate is the same as my avatar but with a different spelling

PIA-
Once upon a time, many moons ago, I saw you walking your dogs on the BB Trail. I was actually in the water preparing to snorkel, but I admired your pups from afar. I was only a Lurker then and didn't want to run out of the water to greet you, like some Crazy Lurker Lady Freak Show. In May, I will do better! And I'm also going to hike the Johnny Horn Trail...even if it kills me. And it might!

Just know they will bark - alot and loud - but they don't bite (their butt's are usually wiggling as they are barking - they have no tail so they have to wiggle everything :) ) just let your girls know before you start out so they won't be afraid - we usually start around 8:30am to 8:45am and are done around 10am :)
