Loved, loved your trip report!! We also have been to St. John both in and off season. We prefer off season either April, May, or early December. Beaches and restaurants less crowded especially in December.
We hiked Brown Bay one year. Snorkling was great but the hike we had not anticipated. We had a cooler, chairs, etc. The whole time snorkling I kept thinking about the return hike back over the mountain.
We're returning to St. John in April for our 9th time. Brought my son and his girlfriend in December and have them totally hooked. They will be making the trip with us in April.

I really like the way you look at the island and the whole trip. Thank you so much for your wonderful reports with fabulous pictures.
You've answered what I wanted to know about the high-season right on the mark. We are more snorkelers than hikers, so we would trade "low humidity" for "warm water" any time, which is why we've been visiting St. John in the late spring/summer (plus the money factor, of course). That being said, if we have an opportunity to go to St. John in the high-season, we WILL go. I appreciate your comparison of the two seasons.
May I ask one question? Marine-life-wise, did you notice any difference underwater?

Yep, Brown bay is a snorkel set, towel and a bottle of water only in a back pack type of hike
I wonder if you were the family I saw quite a long time ago that had beach chairs, cooler and lots and lots of "stuff" with them - I had two puppies with me and stopped to tell them it might not be a great idea to take it all (they were still at the car at that time) needless to say I did see them set out with all their stuff in tow - made me chuckle as I know what that hike back up the hill is like (OK, I did more than chuckle )

I've added La Tapa and Blue Cobblestone to our agenda his coming trip. Also will definitely hit Miss Lucy's this time! We are typically July travelers as well, and somehow seem time it the week Miss Lucy's is closed.

Beach hopping by dinghy has become my favorite STJ activity. It's quite the timesaver over driving and hiking to each beach. Plus, the boating is totally fun. The beaches look completely different when approached from the water. Try it next time.

You're the bomb!! Your trip report and pictures were awesome, almost felt like I was there.....almost! I believe you could write your own tour book of St. John. We definitely need to add Cobblestone beach on to our to do list this summer.

Thanks for taking us along with you. I told my husband last night that he needs to read your whole report this weekend. We're expecting 4-8 inches of snow, so he's looking forward to hunkering down and enjoying your great report!
