If you can find another villa - and right now with the specials being offered you might find another one cheaper or nicer - I would consider the cancellation penalty and see how you come out - you might even be ahead
I would love to hear what the owner has to say knowing he lost a full week rental due to the special he is ofering and not being fair - jmo

Not to nit pick and it doesn't matter to me but if it is in an "escrow" account it does not get interest and can not be used for anything- don't know if they use escrow accounts but just a thought. Secondly, the villa companies usually run the specials etc.. They may consult and wouldn't do it without the owners knowing but their job is to fill it and deal with the guests so the owner is at an arm distance and may not have as much to do with it as many seem to think.

Ask politely and if the answer is no then live with it. You were evidently happy with the deal when you made it. Don't let it upset you. It is a vacation and a time to let the stresses of life disintegrate. Enjoy St John and don't fret over a lost discount. Perhaps the vill agency can offer you a discount on something else to do while you are on island.

Thanks for your thoughts! It was worth asking for the discount but we're locked in to our original agreement. No big deal but it would have been nice to have been able to apply that money to the car rental!
