Of course, you are speaking of Monks in Philly! Nice place. We've been to Belgium many times beer hunting - it's what we do during the STJ high season!! Both of my daughters speak French, thanks to Fairfax County language immersion programs in public school. Me? Un petit peu.

Buy good Belgian beer on STJ? No way, no hand carried. STJ is at the end of a long and punishing supply chain.

Funny how this forum continues to amaze at how many things we all have in common. I'm an avid homebrewer and my last batch was a Belgian Double. Tried for a Tripple but not enough malt this go around.
I'm jealous that we do not have a Belgian inspired brew pub around the Michigan area.

6 weeks # counting....... Promise to drink a beer for you guys!

You'll just have to live with Bell's! John Mallett, the brewery operations manager, spent 8 years brewing in the DC area at Old Dominion. Good stuff.

Hey MB, if you are in Baltimore check out Brewers' Art. Volker Stewart makes some killer Belgians there.

I had a guy over yesterday using my grain mill for a Belgian Dark Strong. We tried some of the Dubble I made in 2004 and it's still pretty good. My favorite yeast for the strong Belgian styles is the Wyeast 3877. I'm making a 22 gallon batch of Pilsener in 2 weeks. That's a bit more of an island beer (I had to get on topic!)

Wow, I had no idea home brewing beer was such a hot topic. The son I referred to in my earlier posts was at Bell's Brewery this past weekend to celebrate a friend's upcoming wedding. They drove from Chicago. This group of college seniors has had a go at brewing in their apartment and have taken some brewing seminars in the Chicago area. Field trips to some brewery in Indiana have occured as well. I was thinking of sending him some interesting microbrews he may not have had for his birthday from one of the web sites that ship beer. Any suggestions for beers or websites?

Thanks Rick, I will. We get down there from time to time and hope to get there this season for a Yankee game. Will check it out for sure.

Yeah, the Belgian Beer Bar in Greenwich Village! I LOOOVE that place. John and I go there every time we visit NYC, grab a couch, order some frites, and then have a beer, or two, or three...ahem. It has such a comfortable atmosphere.

I have had the VI Pale Ale, and thought it was pretty decent. We're really looking forward to checking out the brew pub next trip.

Since we're on the subject of beer!!! There is a hi def tv chanell INHD that has a series called Beer Nutz.

Great watch if you're into beer. Had a great show on Belgian monastery brews. Yummy!!!
