Okay, that's twice today I haven't read the post quite right before responding. Thank you MBW. I need glasses maybe.

Broccolini instead of broccoli, for a change? I blanched it, then sauteed in a bit of olive oil, with garlic and some chopped pepperoncini:

Here it is with roasted grape tomatoes, and some easy chicken with lemony panko and lemon slices.

kygirl, the recipe I used appeared in March's Food and Wine magazine. Here is a link to the recipe:

I'm actually making summer rolls again this evening--but without the shrimp, and with a peanut sauce rolled inside.
Wakey, that is a beautiful photo! I don't like pork but I might make that soup with cod.

I love broccolini but have not seen it in our stores for at least a year. Grrrrrrr. I did the cauliflower thing last night and it was delish. Again, no food porn pix. I always forget. Or, the six of us dive into it so quickly that there just isn't time to have a photo op.
I want to spend some time in the kitchen this Saturday...any ideas for a romantic meal for two? Pete and I will have no kids here all weekend. Maryanne, how quickly can you have banana leaves delivered here?

hmm, i think i am out of those leaves myself !
i just ran across this---a bunch of people talking about their favorite ways to cook broccoli---
http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/0 ... sesame.php
it reminded me of 1)being little and having my favorite food being that frozen broccoli in the cheese sauce, in the packet that you boiled; and 2) my daughter, when she was 2, jumping up and down in the grocery store, saying, broccoli! broccoli!
another shopper stood there simply dumbfounded.

My grandma was the dietary manager at a nursing home and then a senior center. We had those broccoli and cheese packets industrial sized at her home.
I love broccoli. I think my favorite way to eat it is broccoli salad or broccoli slaw. It's hard to make it these days, because Chris can't stand it.

we did corn beef and cabbage yesterday so I made soda bread in the morning.
And tonight we are having a chorizo and lentil stew of sorts. Really good. Recipe called for shrimp but I used some roasted chicken meat instead.

In honor of the day, I made corned beef and cabbage on Sunday night for my husband. He's from Ireland and they never eat corned beef this way. They do "bacon and cabbage," which is more like some kind of ham business, but he has learned to like corned beef and cabbage after living here so long. Here it was, draining.. The beef looks dry on the outside because it sat there for a bit, but it was actually quite perfect inside.

I turned it into corned beef hash this morning, which IS how they eat it over there. He said it was great. I don't eat the stuff myself..
Here is a chopped salad with sour cream scallion dressing.

And some roasted poblano peppers stuffed with brown rice and Mexican shrimp and cilantro and cheese, etc.

That soda bread looks delicious, MaryBeth! Mine always comes out too crumbly.

Ha! When I first saw the soda bread, I thought it was a gigantic chocolate chip cookie.
