Re: Paradise 2019

I have considered this Mexican village as a potential retirement spot. If you are a diver, it is very good there. Would love to see your pictures, if you have them, of your trip. Enjoy!

Re: US Made / Assembled Vehicle (Jeep)

I lived on island before and the best thing I ever did was hire a facilitator to handle everything car. Even when registration was up for renewal I paid for the facilitator to handle it.It is burdensome and I imagine so soon after the hurricane it will be extremely difficult. With the upheaval from t...

Remember there is NO infrastructure on the island. Yes, the place you are renting may be open but not much else. Rebuilding will be very slow, I know because I lived on island after a Cat 2.

Re: Commercial Maho Bay

Why on earth would anyone buy this? The USVIs are practically bankrupt and they are raising taxes that will have a direct impact on pretty much everything tourist in the islands. Building costs are sky high, not to mention the island time mentality for permits and building. Having lived on St John &...

Re: Grand Cayman Recommendations for a St. John Lover?

The East End is somewhat remote, about an hour drive to the 'city' area that has shops, restaurants and the cruise ship terminal. I lived and worked on island for a few months, not many shore snorkeling opportunities as the reef is offshore all along the south shore. I worked for a dive shop called ...

Re: New sunscreen info film

This is one of many issues affecting coral reef health. As a dive instructor I have seen damage up close and also seen a reef regenerate. Every little step helps. Once the reefs are gone, the balance of life in the seas changes. Not a good future.

Head to Virgin Gorda, Tortola, Dominica, Curacao, Bonaire. There are so many nice, quieter islands to visit in the Caribbean. I lived on St John and St Thomas, I don't go back to visit.

Re: new property tax proposal

USVIs are nearly bankrupt and doubts are rising the US Congress will allow them BK protection like Puerto Rico. Chronic mismanagement, graft, corruption and general malaise is all to blame. I experienced this firsthand when living there and after I moved, I never returned to visit either. There are ...

All the comments n their Facebook page are wonderful. 5.0 review status. All 5 star reviews on Airbnb. An acquaintance of mine stayed there, last year, and raves about how great it was, and how wonderful the hosts were.

My understanding yes, just two runs a day to St Croix. It is a brand new service. I imagine, as time rolls by, the number of trips will increase. The pontoon plane used to go several times a day between St Thomas and St Croix. It is by Seaborne Air.

Re: new timeshare fees

A workshop? Whatever for? It is a tax, passed along to visitors, that will negatively affect the tourism of the islands. When I lived on island, I saw that the government was only interested in pursuing the cruise ship tourists. The islands have some of the best diving and water sports in the Caribb...

Re: Where do St. John lovers go when they can't go to St. Jo

You may be happy in Turks & Caicos. The main island has lovely beaches, nice places to eat and you can volunteer at Potcake Place-taking rescue puppies to the beach or just out and about. You can fly there direct from a number of East Coast airports. Grand Cayman might work for you, although it ...
