Re: Buy beach chairs

If you're headed to St. John in the high season, be advised that finding beach/lawn chairs for purchase may be very difficult. The most logical spots to buy a chair -- St. John Hardware, Paradise Lumber on Centerline Road -- may simply have no stock; they get snapped up quickly in the high season. W...

Re: Lawnchairs and snorkel mask

Just inside the Marketplace (where Starfish grocery is located), the first shop on the left rents beach chairs. I forget the name of the shop, but it's where Kaleidoscope Video used to be located.

Re: cell phone changes

Apparently the US Virgin Islands is not on the list of areas/countries covered by Verizon's TravelPass, although the British Virgin Islands is on the list.

You might also consider Battery Hill. All but one of the nine units there have two bedrooms and most of these have both bedrooms on the same floor with a bathroom in between.

Re: St. Croix Vs St. John?

We're also curious about St. John vs. St. Croix. On St. John, we stay in a condo close to Cruz Bay and walk everywhere without renting a car, even for multi-week stays. Can we do this on St. Croix, near Christiansted, for example? Are there close-in condos that are easy and safe to walk to/from Chri...

Verizon's Global Service

Several folks on the TA board have indicated that they've had success making cell phone calls from the USVI by signing up for Verizon's Global Service. When I call the Global Service number (800 711 8300) and tell them I'm interested in this service on our Verizon iPhone 5 in the USVI, they tell me ...

We've always been surprised to find that Bayside Mini Mart (entryway to Rhumb Lines) has good prices on rum.

Re: Airfare - Sunday vs. Saturday?

Give this website a try: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/

After you plug in your destination (STT), choose the option "see calendar for lowest fares," plug in your date and length of stay. It will show you the lowest airfare prices for each day.

Re: 2 bedroom suggestion near Cruz Bay

You should take a look at Battery Hill. Built the same year as Cruz Views, I believe.

Of the nine units at BH, eight have 2 bedrooms. In three of these eight units, the second bedroom is a loft, but the remainder have two private bedrooms.

Re: Airline Carry-on Size

I checked the American website, and it appears that there's no significant change. As long as your checked bag's girth is no more than 62 inches (length + width + height) and weighs under 50 lbs, you're okay. I don't think carry-on restrictions have changed; I can't remember what they used to be. Ca...

Re: What airlines are you using now to get to the islands

We typically travel on American. No complaints. As we're Aadvantage Gold members we get priority check-in and boarding, no baggage fees. But we still have to shop around for the best fares. We've found http://matrix.itasoftware.com is a great resource. You can search for the exact dates you want, or...

Re: Villa for 2 couples, close to Cruz Bay?

Suggest looking at Gallows Point Seaview, across the street from Gallows Point.

Other options for 2BR villas close to Cruz Bay are Frank Bay House and Amora, but I believe they are either out of the rental market or booked up.
